Maine Goes International

Alasdair Fraser, a six-foot-seven power forward from Falkirk, Scotland, recently signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the University of Maine and head coach Ted Woodward next year.

Maine assistant coach Doug Leichner has extensive international contacts after having previously coached at the Adidas ABC All-Star Camp in Europe and also having been the head coach of the UCC Demons of the Irish Professional Super League in 2008.

Fraser comes to Maine with a long history of success at the international level.  He was Scotland's leading scorer at the FIBA u18 European Championships and the tournament's fifth leading overall scorer at just under 20 points per game while also finising third in the tournament in rebounding at 7 per game, shooting 74 percent from the field, and blocking 1.7 shots per contest.

He was the second leading scorer in the Scottish league, averaging 19.8 points per game, and scored 28 points and 16 rebounds in the Scottish league final to lead his team to a championship.

Europeanprospects.com reports that Fraser selected Maine over Stanford, Siena, Pepperdine, Wagner, and Lafayette.
