Luka Toews Commits to Boston College
The last day of the July live period concluded with one of New England’s top ranked prospects, Luka Toews of the Newman School and Middlesex Magic announcing that he will be committing to Boston College to continue his basketball career.
Toews originates from Japan where he spent the majority of his childhood before moving to the states for his sophomore year of high school. He spent one year at Northfield Mount Hermon in what would end up being the last season coaching for longtime head coach John Carroll.
Since then, Toews has run the point for the Newman School in Boston Massachusetts spending his junior year and what will be his senior year this season there. Toews was named All-NEPSAC for the 2022-23 season, and was also selected to represent Team Asia at the 2023 Adidas Eurocamp in Italy.
For grassroots, the talented point guard has spent the last two seasons with the Middlesex Magic. Just last weekend Toews captained the Magic to the 17U Under Armour circuit title in a 58-54 victory over a talented Canada Elite squad.
Mike Crotty program director and head coach of the Middlesex Magic’s Under Armour had this to say about the point guard: “Luka Toews has been a part of two championships with the Magic, winning the 16U spring championship last spring on the Under Armour circuit and this year’s overall title.” He said describing the championship pedigree Toews brings to the squad.
“He has the great leadership ability that you look for in a point guard. He is easily one of the most talented point guards to ever step on the floor for the Middlesex Magic, and he will make an immediate impact in the ACC. I am extremely excited for Luka and his family, and I’m looking forward to watching him compete for Boston College!” Crotty went on to say.
The conclusion of yesterday’s live period was the final grassroots game for most 2024 prospects as they enter their senior year of high school.
I reached out to Luka to ask him why he chose Boston College for the next four years of his career, here’s what he had to say: “I chose BC because I have a great connection with the coaching staff and I could have the chance to make an immediate impact in a Power 5 conference.” He then continued by saying, “Boston is a second home to me.”
Staying in Boston where he currently attends high school and for the next four years, while also getting to compete in the ACC seems to be a match made in heaven.
Luka Toews will have the opportunity to shine on the national stage for Boston College for the foreseeable future.
