Look Back at Swain’s Yale Pledge

Rivers School junior Azar Swain made an early commitment to Yale on Friday, announcing his decision following a regular season finale in which he dropped 29 points in a win against Thayer.

The Brockton native took to his twitter account to publicize his decision following the win:

The Red Wings are now set to begin the post-season on Wednesday as they head to Pomfret as the 5 seed in the Class B tournament but are nonetheless expected to be capable of making a run.

Swain's decision is the culmination of what has been a breakout year for the junior, who also doubles as a star on the gridiron. He played up with the Mass Rivals top squad last spring and summer on the Adidas Gauntlet circuit and made some invaluable contributions down the stretch of their run to the nationally televised Adidas Summer Championships in Las Vegas.

With his longtime Rivers' running mate Jermaine Samuels missing the opening of the season with injury, Swain had a big start to his junior season, dropping 45 points in an opener and continuing to show why he is a highly dangerous scoring guard who can put the ball in the bucket in bunches.

He finished the season averaging 23 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists per game and even topped the 1000 point mark back in December.

Swain is the first player to join Yale's 2017 class.

Below are highlights from Buzzer Beater Basketball of Swain's season high 48 point performance against the Master's School.
