Ledo has Visits on Horizon

South Kent junior Ricardo Ledo was one of the standout performers at the recent National Prep Showcase.

The Rhode Island native put up 30 points on Friday night as South Kent lost in a 115-105 shootout to Hargrave Military Academy.  For Ledo, the performance was just the most recent demonstration of his continued improvement and overall potential.

It wasn’t even the 30 points that were so impressive, it was the effortless way in which he was able to create his own shot at virtually any time.

After the game, Ledo spoke about his recruitment and refuted previous internet reports that he had trimmed his to just seven schools.

“It’s still wide open,” Ledo said.

Last month it was reported that the six-foot-six shooting guard would choose from among Kentucky, Providence, Texas, Syracuse, West Virginia, Louisville, and Villanova, and while those schools all remain heavily involved, additional programs like Duke, Pittsburgh, UCLA and Kansas are also making a strong push as of late.  In fact, Jayhawks assistants Joe Dooley and Danny Manning sat courtside on Saturday as Ledo’s South Kent squad took on La Lumiere School.

While Ledo has not trimmed his list as of yet he is in the process of scheduling unofficial visits to both Kentucky and Louisville according to a story broken by SNY’s Adam Zagoria on Monday.

As for his recruitment as a whole, Ledo said he doesn’t envision making a decision during his junior year.

“I was hoping to get it done by the end of this summer’s AAU season,” Ledo answered when asked about his time frame.

In addition to his recruitment, Ledo also spoke about what he is still hoping to prove in his junior year at South Kent.

“I want to show that I’m the number one shooting guard in the country,” he said, “but I need to get stronger and better defensively and get a little bit better with my decision making.”

It was a recent match-up against the nation’s top ranked shooting guard in the class of 2012, Shabazz Muhammad, that made Ledo realize he still had improvements to make.

“When I played against him he was stronger than me,” Ledo acknowledged.

But with the better part of two years still left on his high school career and a world of talent at his disposal, if Ricardo Ledo is determined to bring his game to the next level then there isn’t a school in the country that couldn’t benefit from having him on their roster.
