Kesses Breaks Two School Records

Choate Rosemary Hall went into Suffield Academy last night missing three starters.  With Mike Ryce and Luke Matarazzo out of action, and Nick Justiz severely limited by a hip flexor injury, the Boars had fallen into a significant hole by halftime.

But Kyle Kesses took over in the second half with a dominating performance.  He scored 32 points including 7 three-pointers after the break, and finished with a game high 38 points including 9 three-pointers.

He set two school records in the process including most points in a single half (32) and the most three-pointers in one game (9).  Earlier this year he had 7 three-pointers in a game against the Kent School.

The Amity High School graduate was able to get into a good rhythm from behind the arc almost immediately after coming out of the locker room.  He was knocking down shots from all spots on the floor as well as well beyond the three-point line.

But it wasn’t just his shooting prowess that was on display as he began to attack the rim off the dribble when Suffield’s defenders began to fly out at him on close-outs, showing an ability to finish with good athleticism and body control.  Kesses also finished the game with 12 rebounders.

Unfortunately for Choate, his second half heroics were not enough to overcome their first half deficit as Suffield relied on some impressive shooting of their own along with a very fundamentally sound attack to go on to a 12 point win.

Kesses has generated a good deal of offers at the division II and III levels, and is also beginning to attract the attention of coaches in the America East & Patriot League with his strong play as of late.
