Jason Schofield Commits to Marist

“I’m coming home…” said Poughkeepsie native South Kent/PSA Cardinals 6’9” forward Jason Schofield in speaking with NERR, as he recently announced his commitment to Marist College.

Schofield began his high school career at Arlington High School. He was already turning heads as a freshman, earning Zero Gravity Player of the Game honors for his performance at an off-season showcase.

By his sophomore year at Our Lady of Lourdes High School in NY, though only 15 years old, he already stood at a towering 6’8”. He had a great season, earning All-Dutchess County honors.

He had another productive off-season following his sophomore year. He was named 2021 Big Shots Philadelphia 17U MVP as a 15-year-old. He was also named to Adam Finkelstein’s list of 2021 NEPSAC Showcase standouts, the 2021 All Gym Rat Team, the HoopGroup Future All-American Camp NBA East All Stars list, the Pangos All-East Frosh/Soph Top 30 list, and more, all in only a few-month span. He received offers from a multitude of schools throughout this off-season, including Stony Brook, St. Francis (Brooklyn), Bryant, and Albany.

This same off-season, Schofield decided to reclassify to the class of 2024 and transfer to Avon Old Farms to begin his prep career at the NEPSAC Class-A level. After one successful year at Avon, he earned an offer from Illinois. He then made the decision to transfer to South Kent to compete at the NEPSAC Class-AAA level before this past season (2022-23).

During his first few months at South Kent, he earned offers from even more schools, including Hofstra, Marist, and Coastal Carolina. He was also named to the second team at the Diamonds in the Rough Winter Showcase. After a productive second half of the season, Schofield helped lead South Kent to a NEPSAC Class-AAA Championship.

This summer, Schofield made the decision to reclassify back into the class of 2023, and to continue his basketball career at Marist College in his home city of Poughkeepsie, NY.

He shared his gratitude on social media, saying, “I'm excited to announce that I will be reclassifying back up to the class of 2023 and committing to Marist College this fall!” He went on, emphasizing the impact his experience at South Kent had on him, saying, “Thank you, South Kent, for giving me the best teammates, teachers, and coaches.” He also highlighted his club team, saying, “Thank you, PSA Cardinals, for everything you have done for me over the past 3 years.” He finally concluded, “To everyone who has supported me throughout this journey, thank you!“

South Kent Head Coach Raphael Chillious shared his thoughts with NERR. “Jason will be a great addition to the Red Fox program,” he said. “He is extremely skilled and possesses the strength to carve out space in the paint to go along with his three point shooting ability,” he continued, emphasizing Schofield’s skill set. “He’s a high-character ‘everyday guy’ who brings his lunch pail to the office with the intention of getting better,” he noted, highlighting the way by which Schofield’s mentality off the court makes him a better player on the court.

Jason Schofield has been on plenty of scouts’ radars for quite some time now. It comes as no shock that we will be watching him compete at the Division I level.
