Jarred Reuter Plays Older Than a 7th Grader

When most people see Jarred play basketball against kids his own age they stop and scratch their head.  After watching the long 6’5” youngster pass, rebound, and block shots, the first thing they say is, “show us his birth certificate”.  Next it’s, “how can a guy so big be so agile”.  But despite his abilities that are well beyond a normal 7th grader, Jarred is just 13 years old.

Although his background hasn’t always been in basketball, so much of the agility and mental toughness he shows on the court comes from his athletic background.

Jarred began racing bicycles when he was five years old and quickly developed into one of the world’s best.  He was the USA National champion for five years, a member of the national team for three years, and the 2004 world champion after winning in Valkeensward, Holland.

But with family roots on the basketball court (his mother played at the University of New Hampshire), Jarred also spent plenty of time playing basketball at the local YMCA and later the New Bedford Boys Club, where his mother still plays in a women’s league.

His many accomplishments on the basketball court include a 10U New England AAU championship with the Dana Barros Playaz, a Division II National Championship and 52-0 record with Merritting Attention, and a 2008 Super Regional Championship with the BABC organization.

At the local levels, Jarred has registered five triple-doubles in ten games leading his middle school team to a 9-1 record.  His travel team also sits in first place of the Cape Cod Basketball League with a perfect 16-0 record after claiming last year’s state championship.

Jarred’s goal for the future are to become a better low post player, work on his vertical jump, and lead his AAU team to a state championship.

Jarred is also a good student whose favorite subjects are writing and Latin.  In addition to basketball and bicycling, he also enjoys baseball and music.  His favorite NBA team is the Los Angeles Lakers and his favorite player is Kobe Bryant.

His coaches refer to him as a “great kid and super teammate who is very humble and love the game of basketball”.
