Jacob Hogarth Commits to Iona

Last week, big man Jacob Hogarth of the Middlesex Magic and South Kent School announced that he will be committing to Iona following his 2024 graduation.

Just this May/June, he also stacked up offers from Maine, Buffalo, Quinnipiac, and NJIT for his performances on the UAA circuit with the Magic and at the NEPSAC showcases, but he would ultimately choose the Gaels.

Hogarth is a more modern big man, as he moves very well down the floor and offers elite defensive versatility. His game is also built on his strength in the post and athleticism to alter opposing shot attempts and force turnovers.

This past winter, Hogarth played his first season at South Kent and ended up winning the 2022-23 NEPSAC Class-AAA Championship. Prior to South Kent, he played at Archbishop Stepinac High School outside New York City, which has a renowned basketball program. His play at Stepinac was rewarded with interest from Creighton and Maryland among other Division I programs.

When asked about his decision on choosing Iona, Hogarth said, “I chose Iona because I feel a sort of open-family environment between players and coaches, and their style of play matches up with mine perfectly. Coach Tobin and staff also have a winning culture that I couldn’t resist being a part of.”

Winning is all that Jacob has done recently. We mentioned he won the NEPSAC Class-AAA Championship this past winter, but he also anchored the Middlesex Magic’s run to a UAA championship this summer.

In a social post just before the announcement of his commitment, the Middlesex Magic had this to say on Hogarth: “Jacob has a remarkable blend of skill, power, and athleticism that makes him extremely impactful on both ends of the court! The big man from NY joined our program and was a pivotal part of our UAA Championship!”

When Hogarth gets to Iona, he’ll be with a familiar face, as his Middlesex Magic running mate Justin Menard also committed to the Gaels this summer. Things are looking up for the big man, and we are excited to see where his talent takes him at the Division I level.
