Hoop Mountain SWI - Day 4 Recap

Jacquil Taylor and Joe Connelly both showed out in the NBA East title game, as the Celtics got the win over a Bucks squad that was rich with Canadian talent from Vanier College Prep. Behind 6’8 sophomore-to-be Jean-Louis Wanya, a tremendous athlete, finisher, and rebounder, Shawn Thelwell, a fierce competitor and inside finisher, and Jhonny Verone, a guard who can make shots from anywhere on the floor with standout athleticism, the team from Vanier had an impressive run to the final considering they were a relatively unknown going into camp.

Ultimately though, because of the combination of Taylor’s defensive intensity with Connelly’s hard-nosed play and sharpshooting, the guys from Beaver Country Day were victorious.

USA All-Stars Shine

Unlike most any all-star game, Hoop Mountain’s USA vs International all-star game on Saturday night was full of defense, all around effort, and selflessness. BABC duo Jonathan Joseph and Terrance Mann helped lead the way for a USA squad who came back from a halftime deficit to pick up the double-digit victory.

Known as a playmaking point guard, Joseph certainly did so in the all-star game by knocking down jumpshots and getting to the paint to set up teammates with open looks, but his defensive intensity was what made him standout. Joseph’s effort and exceptional lateral quickness enabled him to shut down some of the other top point guards in camp.

Terance Mann is an elite talent in the 2015 class. He has deep range on his jumper, he can finish around or above the rim, he rebounds, and plays tough defense.

Bonzie Colson had great footwork and rebounded consistently. Bonzie never quits on a play, as he was a consistent presence on the offensive glass all game and all camp.

Nate Robinson is a strong, athletic forward who can finish around the rim or shoot the three-ball.

It doesn’t seem to matter how hard Bobby Ahearn gets hit, he can still finish at a high rate off of his several nice post moves or off of an offensive rebound. He used his great timing and hands to show he was one of the top rebounders in camp.

Colin Richey showed off his mid-range shooting ability, but also set up teammates for good looks on the offensive end and he finished at a high rate around the rim.
