Hogans Chooses American University

This week, 2025 guard Dean Hogans of the Hotchkiss School and 6th Boro Hoops announced his commitment to American University.

Hogans has spent his high school career at the high academic prep school in Lakeville Connecticut, and has put together some notable milestones.

As a freshman, he was a contributor to the 23-1 Hotchkiss squad that won both the Founders League and the NEPSAC Class A Championship.

The following season, he was named a team captain, a role he has held since. His sophomore year warranted both an All-Founders League First Team appearance and an All-NEPSAC Honorable Mention nomination.

This past year, Hogans put together an impressive stat-line of 17.1 points and 6.4 rebounds per game, surpassed 1,000 career points, and earned an All-NEPSAC Class A First Team spot.

In December of 2023, he received an offer from American University, one that he would ultimately accept just a few days ago.

In talks with Hogans, he raved about the coaching staff and system in place at American: “The biggest thing for me going into my recruitment process was building a relationship with the coaching staff,” he stated.

“Coach Simpkins and the rest of the staff at American showed me how much they cared for me as a player and as a person. We built an amazing relationship that was unmatched,” he went on to say.

The vibes between Hogans and the staff are definitely there, but he also spoke very highly of the team and their culture, “When I went on my official, I could see the love that the team had for each other and it was something that I knew I wanted to be a part of.”

Hogans is a strong, two-way guard with size and a polished offensive game. He can get through the lane absorbing contact and shoots it well from outside.

In the nation’s capital, he hopes to make a name for himself early on: “I want to make an immediate impact wherever I decided on going and I believe that I’ll be able to do that at American.”

While things are looking up for his future on the court, he kept his sights set on his timeline off it too: “Being at a high academic school like Hotchkiss, I knew that I wanted to go to an amazing academic school for college as well. I think that with the network of the people at American and in DC, I’ll be set for life whenever my basketball career comes to an end.”

To wrap things up, Hogans made sure to thank those who contributed to his growth on and off the court, “My family and my coaches that I’ve had throughout the years have gotten me to the place I am today and without them I wouldn’t be in the spot I am today. Achieving my goals and playing college basketball at the Division 1 level.”

With a big senior season on the horizon, a promising career in the Patriot League lies ahead for Dean Hogans.
