Harrison Heading Home
Brewster Academy's Martez Harrison is taking the road less traveled...and he's likely to have a heck of a college career as a result.
Harrison arrived in New England with the reputation for being a scoring point guard. He put up huge numbers at University Academy in Kansas City, and was looking to prove his ability to play the point and run a team.
He accomplished both goals this season, emerging as Brewster's starting point guard down the stretch of a terrific late season run that led to their most recent NEPSAC championship, and ultimately earning high-major scholarship offers in the process.
Despite those higher level interest and offers, Harrison committed to UMKC late Thursday night, returning home to his native Kansas City area, giving new head coach Kareem Richardson a huge recruiting win, and picking a school where he'll be capable of coming in and making an immediate contribution.
Harrison is the second local product to commit to Richardson in as many days after Frank Williams pledged to UMKC out of the junior college ranks.
The five-foot-eleven Harrison is an attacking style lead guard who is capable of putting points on the board in bunches, but has matured tremendously this year in terms of his understanding of how to run a team.
