Haladyna Calls It

St. John’s Prep senior swingman Steve Haladyna made a verbal commitment to Tufts University on Monday, turning down scholarship offers from the Northeast 10 Conference.

“It was definitely the best fit for me because of the academics and the positive direction that the basketball program is heading there,” he told the New England Recruiting Report.

Haladyna had a break out junior season at St. John’s Prep last year, establishing himself as one of the premier players in the MIAA and culminating with a 29 point performance in the state finals to lead Prep to an MIAA championship.

It was more of the same this summer as he proved himself against high levels of competition while playing with the Mass Rivals and accumulating higher level recruitment along the way.

Ultimately, the versatile six-foot-five swingman earned division II scholarship offers along with his choice of division III programs before ultimately choosing Tufts.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to get a top notch education,” he said, “and help our team out next year.”
