Grodin to Penn State

On May 7, 2025, Newman School guard Reggie Grodin announced his commitment to Penn State. The decision comes after Grodin reopened his recruitment following a decommitment from Fordham University.
The 6-foot-5 combo guard is coming off of an ultra-efficient season with Newman, where he shot 68% from two-point territory, as well as 41% from beyond the arc. These numbers helped lift Newman to the Class AAA NEPSAC Championship. His play throughout the season earned him third team All-NEBL honors.
Grodin has played for the New York Lightning AAU program throughout his high school career. With the Lightning, he has impressed with his grit on the defensive end and his shooting ability.
The New England Recruiting Report chatted with the newest guard on the Nittany Lions about his decision. Grodin expressed deep gratitude to those who assisted along his journey: “I would like to thank my parents for helping me tremendously through high school, basketball, and more importantly life,” he said. “I would also like to thank my coaches Jackson Johnson and John Carroll for believing in me and putting in countless hours in the gym. I would also like to thank Dana Dingle and Shandue McNeil from the NY Lightning.”
Grodin also provided insight into his decision.
“What led me to ultimately choosing Penn State was the coaching staff and their vision for me,” he explained. “They gave me a clear plan about my future and how I fit into their system well. I have a great relationship with Coach Rhoades and the whole coaching staff. Penn is also a top level academic school which was very important to me.”
When asked about his future plans, Grodin emphasized the importance of continuing to learn the game while preparing for the possibility of a professional career, and developing relationships beyond the court.
“Basketball taught me a great amount about hard work and commitment which can help me in my everyday life,” he said.
The new Nittany Lion will have a chance to make an immediate impact next season, as the team looks to rebound from a 6-14 finish last season. He joins New Hampton's Mason Blackwood in the incoming class this summer.
