Garcia Makes Decision

Andrew Garcia, a senior forward from the Master's School in West Simsbury (CT), made a verbal commitment to Stony Brook on Wednesday.

The pledge will bring Garcia back closer to home after previously starring at Harlem Village Charter in New York before transferring to Master's in the fall of 2014.

The 6-foot-5 forward made a quick splash in the prep ranks, landing several offers last fall, including one from Stony Brook. Steve Pikiell and his staff have been on Garcia ever since, following him through his first season at Master's and then throughout the EYBL season when he once again ran with the New York Lightning.

The New York native is a big wing with a powerful body, versatile game and lot of scoring ability inside of 18 feet. He's both smooth and physical off the bounce, very good in the mid-range area and able to overpower smaller players en route to the rim. With long arms and big shoulders, he has the power and physique to defend multiple positions and can even slide over to the four-spot when his team looks to play small.

Garcia becomes the second player to commit to Stony Brook in the class of 2016 joining Mike Almonacy, a point guard from Brentwood High School in Long Island.
