Fowler Chooses the Dukes

Over the weekend it was announced that Brewster Academy and New Heights 2025 Preston Fowler had committed to James Madison.

With the school year just getting underway, the 6’7 Forward had reportedly lined up visits at James Madison, Wichita State and Oklahoma State only to cancel the latter two and commit to the Dukes of JMU.

Fowler is fresh off a standout season in the EYBL where he shot 41.3% from three point range, averaging 9.9 points per game prior to Peach Jam. At the conclusion of the grassroots season, Fowler led his team in points per possession, playing an efficient secondary scoring role.

With his Brewster Academy squad, Fowler finished second in team three point percentage shooting 48% from three per the EYBL Scholastic website. The Bobcats finished their debut season in the league at seventh in team offense.

In the team’s live period warmup this past June, the JMU commit put up arguably the best performance of the event, finishing with 36 points on 10-12 from behind the arc.

Prior to making the transfer to Brewster Academy, Fowler won two Connecticut state championships at East Catholic.

The Connecticut native had tons of options for his collegiate career with offers from Albany, Bryant, Fairfield, Fordham, George Mason, George Washington, Manhattan, Oklahoma State, Penn State, Quinnipiac, Rhode Island, Sacred Heart, Temple, Wake Forest, and Wichita State.

Ultimately choosing the Dukes, Fowler had this to say about what led him to James Madison: “JMU is a great program and it’s shown through the years. Coach Spradlin and his staff are great at developing players on the court, as well as off the court,” he said speaking on new Head Coach Preston Spradlin’s program.

He went on to say, “It’s a family atmosphere all around and as soon as I left the visit I knew I wanted to be apart of the JMU family.”

Coach Spradlin takes over the reins of the Dukes program after being a coveted young coach this past offseason. He took Morehead State to two NCAA Tournaments in four years, while showing consistent improvement year over year.

With Fowler verbally committed, Spradlin’s got his first big-time high school recruit to Harrisonburg Virginia.
