Today’s update is from 2017, when the ninth installment of the Elite 75 Frosh/Soph Showcase once again raised the bar for regional recruitment. Over the past few years, many alums from the 2017 showcase have continued their success at some of the highest levels. Here are just a handful of the biggest updates from recent years:
New Bedford HS/North HS (Worcester)/Brewster Academy alum Demarr Langford recently announced his commitment to UCF from the transfer portal. He committed to Boston College out of high school, where he has played the past three seasons, averaging as many as 11 points and 5 rebounds. It will be interesting to see how he fits in at Central Florida.
Archbishop Stepinac alum 2020 New York Gatorade High School Player of the Year/Mr. Basketball RJ Davis has had three great years at UNC, averaging over 16 points and 5 rebounds for the Tar Heels this past season. He scored 2,446 total points during his high school career, a Westchester County record.
Worcester Academy/Brewster Academy alum Dasonte Bowen competed for Iowa this past season, starting in one game and averaging over 3 points despite averaging less than 10 minutes of playing time. He also shot 36% from three-point range and 48% from the field. In high school, he earned All-NEPSAC Class-AA First Team at Worcester and All-NEPSAC Class-AAA First Team at Brewster.
Brimmer & May alum Kyrell Luc had a successful season for St. Bonaventure this past year, averaging over 11 points, 4 assists, and 2 steals. As a freshman (the season before last), he competed for Holy Cross, averaging 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals. He earned 2020 NEPSAC Class-AA Player of the Year honors as a junior before having his senior year taken away by COVID. He has bounced back tremendously from an abrupt hiatus.
Once again, this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to successful alums of the Elite 75 Frosh/Soph Showcases. Other players from 2017’s showcase who went on to play Division I (and some professional) include Kareem Reid, Richie Springs, Trey Hall, Jonathan Aku, Myles Foster, Bendji Pierre, Judson Martindale, Aidan Carpenter, Matt Knowling, Gus Larson, Quest Harris, Taelon Martin, Dallion Johnson, Bol Akot, Bensley Joseph, Enoch Cheeks, Aaron Cooley, Darius Ervin, Dom Mello, Alpha Diallo, Kyle Rocker, Gianni Thompson, Camaron Tongue, Ademide Badmus, Alexis Reyes, Kurtis Henderson, Avery Brown and many more!
