Five Star Camp - Event Recap

Five Star Basketball has just concluded it's second session at Springfield College held August 2-5.  The talent level of the Springfield Session 2 certainly surpassed that of the first session in July as there were players on hand from Virginia to Chicago and even as far as Germany. 
 
The New Englanders who stood out include:
 
Andre King (6-1, G, Sabis Charter)   - Rising Senior / 2010 - King has a college ready body, and a quickly expanding skill set.  While known most as a deadly sharpshooter, King showed an increased ability to put the ball on the floor and attack the rim.  King's improved repertoire and some strong game performances allowed him to garner the camp's Most Outstanding Player award.
 
John Basile (6-1, F, Cathedral HS) - Rising Sophomore / 2012 - This crafty wing showed his penchant for getting to the basket as well as an improving mid-range game to go with his strong court-sense.
 
Brandon Jones (6-1, F, Windsor HS) - Rising Senior / 2010 - Jones showed his incredible quickness while easily proving to be the best perimeter defender in the field.  Jones should provide an excellent role player for coach Ken Smith at Windsor this coming season.
 
John Powell (6-7, C, Ashland HS ) - Rising Sophomore / 2012 - A long, lanky post presence, Powell exploded in the All-Star game, scoring in a variety of ways and blocking or altering a countless number of shots.  Powell's performance in the Orange-White classic earned him the All-Star Game MVP award.
 
Kamari Robinson (6-7, C, Springfield Central HS) - Rising Freshman / 2013 - Although he didn't always maintain it, Robinson showed flashes of outstanding potential.  Once he matures and learns to maintain effort on both ends and without the ball, this 6-7 athletic post player could have something special.  His ceiling is very high, which was why he is thought of among the more promising prospects at the camp.
 
Andrew Chrabascz (6-5, F, Portsmouth (RI) HS) - Rising Sophomore / 2012 - Touring the spring/summer circuit with his Expressions Elite team and at times with the Rhode Island Hawks, Chrabascz's exploits are becoming very well-known in the region.  However, that didn't stop him from impressing coaches even more.  The 6-5 forward showed off his quickly developing perimeter skills in addition to his well-lauded post abilities en route to splitting the "Most Promising Prospect" award.
 
Adrian Oliveira (6-0, G, Cumberland (RI) HS) - Rising Sophomore / 2012 - In sharing "Most Promising Prospect" honors with Chrabascz, a teammate with the Rhode Island Hawks, Oliveira drew constant praise by staff and onlookers for his extraordinarily high basketball IQ and fluid guard play well beyond his 15 years.  Oliveira constantly dominated opponents in the back court and excelled as a defender and playmaker; all while getting to the rim at will in a variety of ways.  With his exceptional play, Oliveira solidified himself as a potential scholarship-level prospect in dominating fashion this week.
