Fitzy Games - Event Recap

The Boston Amateur Basketball Club kicked of its 2012 Spring AAU Freshmen, Sophomore and Junior teams at the 10th Annual Fitzy Games on Sunday, March 18, at the Mount Ida College. BABC went up against a Massachusetts All Star team put together from some of the best public and private schools in the state.

In the upper classmen game, BABC used their two playmaking guards in Rene Castro (Worcester Academy) and Jaylen Brantley (Wilbraham & Monson) to pick apart the Mass All-Stars and cruise to a 30 point win. Big man Andrew Chrabascz (Cushing Academy) anchored BABC’s fast start with 22 points in the first half, and absolutely owning the paint. Chrabascz ended up with 30 points and 17 rebounds in a workhorse type afternoon. Castro picked up the scoring with 19 points in the second half alone, using his outside shot while also showing he can get to the rim and finish over smaller guards. Kamari Robinson (Central Springfield) 15 points and K.J. Baptiste (Brimmer and May) also played great games rounding out the BABC squad. For the Mass All Stars, Colin Richey (Whitinsville Christian) and Jake Fay (Brimmer and May) kept the game close in the first half with Fey knocking down four threes.

In the Sophomore game, BABC really showed what a deep and explosive team they can be this year with six players scoring in double digits. Big man Bonzie Colson (St. Andrews) paved the way with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Also, playing well for BABC was Curtis Cobb (Durfee High School), Tyler Nelson (Central Catholic), and Damion Smith (New Misson). This was a total team victory with BABC always willing to make the extra pass and getting great looks at the hoop almost on every possession. For the Mass All-Stars Brendan Miller (North Andover) exploded on to the scene with 15 points and 5 assists displaying great athleticism and playmaking ability on the fast break. Guards Johnnie Spears (Pingree) and Elijah Rodgers (Brimmer and May) exhibited how they can excel in the open court while also showing the ability to knock down shots on the perimeter.

The freshman game shared a similar result with BABC getting off to an early start. Big man Marcel Pettway was a man among boys this afternoon finishing with 32 points and 19 rebounds in a dominating performance down low, by the young man. Swingman Bruce Brown (Wakefield High School) had a great day scoring 14 points on a variety of drives and pull up jumpers. Jordan Scurry (Beaver Country Day) and Brendan Hill (Mansfield High School) also had solid games on both the defensive and offensive ends. For the Mass All Stars, Point Guard Randy Glenn (New Misson) showed brilliant quickness beating the press and getting the ball to the rim. Big guys A.J. Brodeur (Algonquin) and Aaron Falzon (St. Marks) more than held their own against BABC, scoring in and around the paint with much success. Eighth graders Nino Leone (Pingree) and Alonzo Jackson showed they more than belonged on the court with the older players exhibiting poise, court vision, and power not seen by many eighth graders.
