ESPN Updates National 2016 Rankings
ESPN updated their national rankings in the class of 2016 on Tuesday and while things stayed relatively consistent for New England products, there was one exception as Wilbraham & Monson forward Wenyen Gabriel made another jump, this time landing in the top 15.
The jump is especially significant because it makes him the top overall ranked prospect in New England, just one spot ahead of St. Thomas More big man Omari Spellman who retained his spot as the 16th best prospect in the country.
Both players have landed huge honors in recent weeks as Gabriel was named to the USA Basketball Team that will compete in the Nike Global Challenge and Spellman was selected for the Jordan Brand Classic.
Mustapha Heron and Bruce Brown, both of which have been putting up huge numbers as of late, came in at 25 and 31 respectively.
First year South Kent forward Matthew Moyer checks in at 57 while teammate Myles Powell sits at 79, despite missing the opening of the season with injury.
Brewster Academy's Taurean Thompson headlines three big men from the prep ranks to remain in the rankings as the New York native currently sits at 86 followed by Putnam Science Academy's Mamadou Diarra at 92 and Vermont Academy's Tyrique Jones at 93. Another Brewster Academy product, Alpha Diallo, is right behind at 94, giving New England 10 of the top 100 prospects in the national class of 2016.
