ESPN Announces Rankings

New England is well represented in ESPNU 100, Super 60, and Terrific 25. 

ESPN has announced their updated national rankings in the classes of 2012, 2013, and 2014 respectively and once again there are a lot of familiar names on that list. 

It begins in the class of 2012 where Kaleb Tarczewski has moved up to the fourth spot on the ESPNU 100 following a tremendously efficient performance last week at the Hoophall Classic. 

Notre Dame Prep’s most recent addition, international sensation Steven Adams, makes his debut ranked 5th overall in the country as the New Zealand native has disappointed no one in his first two weeks stateside. 

The Providence bound back court of Ricardo Ledo and Kris Dunn have both moved up a few spots, to 18th and 23rd respectively, as Ledo has helped lead South Kent to a good first half of the season while Dunn has been on a tear thus far at New London. 

Brewster Academy big man Mitch McGary dipped down to 21st overall in the country but still has plenty of time to regain his territory at the top of the rankings while teammate T.J. Warren checks in at 28th overall in the country. 

Jake Layman is currently ranked 61st overall in the national class as the Massachusetts native is two spots ahead of former Lee Academy forward Anthony Joseph Perez Cortesia, who is signed with Ole Miss. 

Tilton forward Georges Niang is up a couple of spots to 68, fresh off his 2000th career point while there is another familiar face at 75 in former Hotchkiss center Mike Tobey.  St. Mark’s swingman Nikolas Stauskas is right behind at 78. 

Post-graduates are not eligible for the ESPNU 100 and so players like Semaj Christon, Aaron Thomas, Jakarr Sampson, Olivier Hanlan, Myles Davis, and Sam Cassell Jr. were not considered.

The Super 60 almost had its second consecutive New England resident on top after Andre Drummond held down that spot at this time last year.  This year it was Nerlens Noel who almost overtook Jabari Parker for the title of the nation’s best. 

“Noel…is the Anthony Davis of high school basketball. No one player in high school affects the game as much as Noel does on the defensive end,” ESPN’s senior basketball recruiting analyst wrote.  “As Noel's offensive repertoire expands, so does the discussion regarding the top spot.”

While Noel maintains the second spot in the national rankings we don’t see another New England product until Vermont Academy’s Dominic Woodson makes his debut at number 38, and the two big men are the region’s sole representatives in the Super 60.

Noah Vonleh continues to climb towards the top spot in the class of 2014, moving up to the fourth overall spot in the ESPNU Terrific 25.  Wayne Selden isn’t far behind as the Tilton guard has jumped five other prospects to sit in the sixth spot. 

Coming off his tremendous summer, Salisbury’s Chris McCullough is holding firmly as the 12th ranked player in the country, giving New England three of the top 25 prospects in the national class of 2014.
