Elite 75 Frosh/Soph – 2015 Recap

Yesterday we went through the numerous 2015 prospects that played their way into the NERR database with their performance at this weekend’s New England Elite 75 Showcase – Frosh/Soph Edition.  Now it’s time to take a look back at the freshman class on the whole. 

Top Performances

Jarred Reuter, Tabor Academy (MA) – His physical advantage is almost unfair as his size and strength is completely unmatched inside the paint to the point where it was lucky he didn’t hurt anyone.  Still getting back into game shape after missing all of last season, Reuter not only dominated the interior but also showed off an evolving skill set by knocking down a couple of threes, starting the break with his dribble, and making a couple of nice passes. 

Ian Sistare, Trinity (NH) – Sistare took the road less traveled in a showcase setting and stood out by virtue of his unselfishness and high basketball I.Q.  He was arguably the day’s best passer, not just looking to throw assists, but feeding the post and making the extra pass around the perimeter.  Combine that with a good shooting performance from the field and good efficiency with his handle and he was one of the most impressive freshmen on hand. 

Jashanti Allen, Northfield Mount Hermon (MA) – He was arguably the top point guard in the freshman field, both setting the table for others and making plays for himself.  He was a blur with the ball in the open floor, knifed into gaps in the defense with his dribble, and even made enough jumpers to keep the defenders honest.  With Reuter emerging as his favorite target, he also showed off impressive court vision and passing skills. 

Jonathan Joseph, Putnam Science Academy (CT) – Joseph was one of the standouts from last year’s event and so he returned to the scene of the crime after repeating his ninth grade year.  A pure pass first type point guard with instincts and poise beyond his years, Joseph showed his individual scoring abilities in this venue, going to work with his pull-up and also consistently making shots from beyond the arc or tough drives with his dribble. 

Tyree Robinson, Putnam Science Academy (CT) – Joseph’s running mate during both the high school and AAU seasons, Robinson is a virtual highlight reel waiting to happen.  He is absolutely explosive and he proved it with an assortment of rim rocking finishes.  Tops among them was an incredible tip dunk that came over top of an unsuspecting victim. 

Other Top Prospects

Djery Baptiste, Wilbraham & Monson (MA) – He’s undeniably raw and a few years away from realizing his true potential but this Hatian native has tools that simply can’t be taught.  First and foremost are his size and staggering length, but even those could be surpassed by how well he runs the floor.  He also appears to be a quick learner since he’s already improved noticeably in the one month he has been stateside. 

Devin Marsh, Master’s (CT) – By all rights he should have been listed yesterday with the other prospects added to our database, but the truth of the matter is that wouldn’t have done him enough justice as Marsh was one of the more pleasant surprises of the showcase.  He’s a high level athlete with a competitive streak and the raw skill to be developed over the years.  In spurts he showed flashes of true brilliance. 

Aaron Falzon, St. Mark’s (MA) – What makes Falzon so intriguing is his combination of size and skill, and he continued to show that skill off on Saturday, shooting over top of his defenders and consistently stretching defenses out to the three-point line.  One of the best comparisons we heard all day was that of a poor man’s Tracy Murray (former UCLA/NBA player for all you youngsters out there). 

Best of the Rest

Nick Seretta, Eaglebrook (MA) – The hard-nosed guard had a very good day, turning in a well-rounded performance from start to finish.  He shot the ball very well, took it hard to the basket, got himself to the free-throw line, and even showed an ability to create space for his pull-up. 

Randy Glenn, New Mission (MA) – He’s a sparkplug lead guard with tremendous end to end speed.  While it wasn’t necessarily his best day, he still managed to impress by doing some of the little things.  First among them were his leadership abilities and positive attitude. 

Blair Howard, Capital Prep (CT) - An attacking guard who has the potential to step right in with Levy Gillespie and Kahlil Dukes to form a potentially devastating three-guard line-up for Capital Prep over the course of the next three years. 

Others who Impressed

• Corey Daugherty, Barrington (RI)  – skilled, unselfish & good decision maker 
• Dennis Bailer, Malden (MA) – undersized true point with feel for the game
• Kasheem Cunningham, South (MA) – guard with handle; especially good in transition
• Ryan O’Connell, St. Augustine (MA) – shot-maker who also makes extra pass 
• Justin Campbell, Career (CT) – long athlete produced inside & slashes to score
• Sam Glazier, Hopkins (CT) – ideal utility guy with deceptive strength & confidence
• Jordan Robinson, Middletown (CT) – poor man’s Cane Broome with handle & shot
• Kevin Austin Scarlett, Belmont Hill (MA) – one of hardest workers in field
• Ark Ager, Bridgeport (CT) – power player with motor to maximize his tools
• Eric DAguanno, Narragansett (RI) – heady player in right place at right time 
• Ben Malloy, Bonny Eagle (ME) – went for multiple threes in both games
• Elijah Pemberton, Xavier (CT) – has upside with athletic body & sturdy build
• Joseph Downes, Sandwich (MA) – nice day for pure point with smooth skills
• Jake Wisniewski, Quaboag (MA) – lunch pail guy & hard hat guy who produces 
• Temar Hermelijn, Canterbury (CT) – undeniable talent with physical tools to blossom
• Brian Collamore – lefty point works hard, handles, plays the right way & runs the team
• Yeshaya Lomax, Fessenden (MA) – defended & scored at will early in the day 
• Jaewoo Chung, Arlington (MA) – pure point who controls tempo & makes others better
• Donre Daniels, Bridgeport Central (CT) – creative guard with deceptive bounce
• C.J. Davidson, Notre Dame Fairfield (CT) – playmaker who also finished well 
• Gage Feeney, Washington Academy (ME) – decision maker & sheer competitor 
• Zaire Wilson, Norwalk (CT) – slasher with great feel for the game at best in open floor
• Jordan Scurry, Beaver Country Day (MA) – shot-maker with strong body
• Alex Holloway, St. Raphael (RI) – point guard with high IQ & feel for game
• Mark Variste, Prospect Hill (MA) – spark plug with ball weaving into lane
• Ryan Brown, Bedford Academy (MA) – has size, toughness & evolving skill
• Donte Peeler, Notre Dame Fairfield (CT) - talented wing earned a spot in the top 40 game
