Elite 75 Frosh/Soph – 2013 Standouts

Haverhill’s Noah Vonleh wasn’t the only standout of the afternoon session at Saturday’s New England Elite 75 Showcase – Frosh/Soph Edition.  In fact, there were a variety of other well known products that once again proved their worth. 

Rene Castro, Beaver Country Day – He showed his complete arsenal on Saturday, scoring the ball in a multitude of ways and being shifty with the dribble.  Most impressive was his court vision and ability to make those around him better with his passing ability.  

Andrew Chrabascz, Cushing Academy – Chrabascz turned in one of the more complete performances of the day, beasting people inside but also being productive on the perimeter, knocking down 18 footers and driving to kick for open shots. 

Bryan Jones, Christian Heritage – Jones looked every bit the part of one of the toughest guards in the class.  He was athletic on both ends of the court, explosive attacking the basket, and pesky defensively with his quick hands. 

Kaleb Joseph, Nashua South – Long and skilled, Joseph continues to be one of the most intriguing prospects in the class.  He also showed glimpses of his developing athleticism including one big time play where he blocked a would-be lay-up off the glass. 

Jake Fay, Brimmer & May – For those who weren’t paying attention this summer, Fay reminded why his stock recently soared upwards as he showed great size for his position, deceptive bounce, and the ability to make deep threes in bunches with a quick and fluid stroke. 

Timmance McKinney, Milton – A strong lead guard who proved he was capable of taking the game over at times, McKinney is a great ball-handler who made sharp changes of direction with the ball, played through contact en route to the rim, and finished at the cup. 

John Powell, Brimmer & May – He’s come a long way in the last year including another two inches and a much more versastile game.  He handles and passes well for a four, runs the court, finishes, and can do his fair share of scoring with his back to the basket. 

Schadrac Casimir, Trinity Catholic – Casimir is an extremely athletic, albeit undersized, lead guard who makes plays on both ends of the floor.  He has a great crossover move, finishes very well for a smaller guard, can pressure the ball the length of the court, and is the first to dive onto loose balls. 

Jared Terrell, Weymouth – He has the physical tools to potentially be able to play at a high level down the road.  Right now, he can play and defend multiple positions and does his best work attacking the basket and finishing through contact. 

LQuan Arnum, Dartmouth – Known for his quickness and high energy, Arnum continued to be a playmaker at both ends, flying at the rim without a second of hesitation while also showing off a solid jump shot from the perimeter. 

Nate Anderson, New Mission – A physical specimen in the middle, Anderson was one of the best post prospects at the event.  He is long, strong, and athletic, runs the floor hard, changes shots in the middle of the paint, and can come up with some highlight reel finishes and blocks around the bucket. 

Dimitri Floras, Merrimack – Floras is an exciting point who is able to balance his high basketball I.Q. with a flair for the game.  He shoots it well from long range, has a nice pull-up game, handles efficiently, and controls the flow of the game. 

Cornelius Tyson, Springfield Central – Still one of the top point guard prospects in the class, Tyson gets into the teeth of the defense to make plays for himself and others and has also become more explosive within the last year while also improving his jump shot. 

Cane Broome, East Hartford – A slippery playmaker who looks poised to accept increased responsibility this year at East Hartford, Broome has great ball skills, can facilitate for others, scores going to the rim, and has a smooth mid-range pull-up. 

Derek Collins, North Andover – A skilled scoring guard with good length, Collins was aggressive attacking the rim and creating space with his dribble but also more than capable of draining the long ball, and consequently able to put points up all day long. 

Ben Engvall, Barrington – Very solid in all aspects with no immediately noticeable holes in his game, Engvall handles the ball well, sees the court, has shooting range to the arc, runs the court in transition, and competes defensively

Colin Richey, Whitinsville Christian – Richey completed a very strong weekend after an impressive performance at night earlier at the Hoop Mountain Fall Classic.  He seems a step quicker than he was last spring and is consequently that much more of an effective playmaker. 

Others Who Impressed:

• Will Cartwright, Piscataquis – Young big man who competes and battles for position, still learning the game & growing into his body but has definite upside. 

• Jacob Clark, Christian Heritage – At his best catching and shooting but also cut well away from ball and handled enough to be a combo. 

• Mike Auger, Hopkinton – Forward is both mobile & physically tough, scores and rebounds anywhere inside of 12 feet. 

• Danny Upchurch, Notre Dame Fairfield – True point guard who has tremendous court vision and is a quarterback on the floor. 

• Jahvaney Beckford, Hyde School – Equally powerful and explosive, a high level athlete who plays above the rim and bullies people inside the paint. 

• Jeff Racy, Ridgefield – A shot maker who is active on both ends of the floor and does a particularly good job on the offensive glass. 

• Connor Reardon, Salem HS – A long wing with a versatile game Reardon scores from the mid-range and in, makes good decisions, and looks to feed the post. 

• Jesse Maresca, Wochusett – Heady player who has a high understanding of the game and good looking shooting stroke.

• Mabor Gabriel, Trinity – Extremely long arms and great timing help to block shots while soft touch from perimeter gives him high upside. 

• Brendan Collins, Xaverian Brothers – Made shots in bunches from behind three-point line and has good length

• Travis Descoteaux, Trinity – Very skilled player who shoots it well off the catch or dribble, has handles, and doesn’t back down from anyone. 

• Adam Ek, Thornton Academy – True point guard with great attitude and work ethic, good with the ball, and high understanding of game. 

• Tom Hunt, LaSalle Academy – Lethal catch and shoot threat who makes defense pay every time they leave his shooting hand. 

• Kurt Steidl, Ridgefield – A skilled swingman who makes open shots, is very sound with the ball, and rebounds deceptively well. 

• Kyle Lentini, North Reading – Tough, hard-nosed forward who sprints the floor on every possession and rebounds the ball off the net.
