Eastern Invitational New England

The Eastern Invitational Top 100 Clinic had a little bit of everything this weekend. It had a good number of uncommitted seniors who were being evaluated by a good number of local division II and division III coaches, in addition to a handful of younger players who have a chance to be playing at the division level in the future.

Below is a recap of players who impressed in front of college coaches and recruiting report authors alike:

Class of 2007

D’Andre Brockington, 6’5, C/F, Platt Tech (CT): Very long and athletic player who clearly wants the ball on the low post but needs to continue to develop his game in that area.

Kevan Cuffie, 6’6, C/F, New Leadership Charter (MA): Combines good length and athleticism with a good strength. Rebounds and blocks shots, but still raw offensively.

Nathan Disessa, 5’9, PG, Westfield HS (MA): He was very good with the ball getting in to the lane and showing he could finish over bigger defenders. He has obviously worked hard to improve his strength and had very quick hands defensively.

Kevin Gabryel, 6’2, SF, Westfield HS (MA): Is probably more of an athlete than a basketball player but has great strength and gets up to finish at the rim. He is decent off the bounce but the outside shot needs to improve. Defensively, he was solid.

Antone Gray, 5’9, PG, St. Raphael’s Academy (RI): Antone showed the ability to run the team from the point or score when he was playing off the ball. Little in size but doesn’t lack confidence.

Conor Lomas, 6’7, C, Minnechaug Regional HS (MA): He has good size, rebounds well, and can make shots from the high post. He needs to develop a go to move in the post and learn to keep the ball up in the paint.

Ellis Ludwig-Leone, 6’2, G/F, Somerset HS (MA): He was very good off the dribble getting to the rim and finishing in both a both half-court offense and transition. Left hand needs to improve.

Christian Van Loenen, 6’2, SG, Cheverus HS (ME): In a showcase style environment it is hard to stand out without the basketball but Christian did just that by screening hard, cutting well, and diving on the floor for loose balls. When he got the chance he showed that he could knock down shots from the perimeter and generally impressed coaches with his work ethic and basketball I.Q.

Robbie Williams, 6’1, SG, Danbury HS (CT): Lefty who was effective shooting the three and getting out in and finishing in transition. Showed he could score the ball without monopolizing it.

Class of 2008

Dan Bisaccio, 6’5, F, Mt. Anthony Union HS (VT): Dan has a nice combination of size and skill and a very develop left hand. He has a lot of tools but needs to add some muscle to his frame.

James Rodrigues, 5’9, PG, Charlestown HS (MA): The little lefty showed the ability to hit the three-point shot as well as get in the lane off the dribble. Occasionally, he got a little careless with the ball.

Danquah Rollins, 6’4, SG, Boston English HS (MA): Danquah was attacking off the dribble at will today both pulling up for short jumpers or getting all the way to the cup and finishing with either hand. Definite division I prospect who may be flying under the rader.

Class of 2009

Preye Boyle, 6’5, F, Sprinfield Central HS (MA): The lefty is very athletic and at his best in transition. His offensive skills need some polish, but he has a lot of potential.

Austin Carroll, 6’3, G, Worcester Academy (MA): He showed his competitive streak during a very close second game on Saturday. Shot the ball very well from the perimeter with deep range.

Dartaye Ruffin, 6’7, F, School TBA: Dartaye may hav been the most talented prospect in the gym. As of Friday he didn’t have a school after attending St. Andrew’s last year. He might be on his way to Winchendon.

Cory Stockmal, 6’1, G, Watertown HS (MA): Showed a good combination of skills including a consistent outside shot and good enough ball skills to run the point.

Kyle Stockmal, 6’2, G, Watertown HS (MA): We watched him play for 10 minutes before we could figure out which hand was his dominant one. He finished, passed, and put it on the floor equally well with both hands. But he shoots threes with his right.

Corey Wright Jr. (pictured above), 5’10, PG, St. Raphael’s Academy (RI): Has long arms for a player less than 6 feet. Very good off the dribble and with the pass both in transition and a half court set.

Class of 2010

Kyle Lawrence, 5’10, PG, Catholic Memorial HS (MA): He was the best freshmen in the gym this weekend. He was really good off the dribble and didn’t back down from older and bigger players.
