#E75 Mid-Atlantic Recap - The Guards

The Mid-Atlantic Elite 75 was loaded with aspiring college prospects at the guard spot. Some of them came in with buzzing college recruitment, some are bound to end up that way in the near future. Let's take a look at what we liked about each guard's game and where they attend school.

Top Performers

Res Whitaker, Marriotts Ridge - Maryland's Res Whitaker is a big guard that colleges should check out. He's got a strong body which he uses to get in the paint and score, as well as an impressive handle to shot create. He stood out as a three-point shooting threat knocking them down in bunches, as well as leading his team in rebounds.

Evan Rainville, Columbia - The Upstate NY prospect has caught a lot of deserved high academic D3 looks, and stood out despite playing through a foot injury. Rainville is an electric scorer with shooting prowess and pop to flush down dunks. He is versatile defensively and makes quick passes as a heady guard. In this setting, his guard skills caught our eye as a strong complement to his scoring strengths. NESCAC’s who are unfamiliar, check him out.

Khaleeb Obieke, Andrews Osborne Academy - Obieke has received scholarship interest thus far, and continues to show out. He dribbles with the ball on a string, and adjusts his body well to navigate past defenders. From three-point range he can really make things happen, knocking down shots at-will, and can finish acrobatically around the rim. After the showcase, he did not lose a single contest in either ZGXL or HoopGroup, and converted a buzzer beater three off the catch.

CJ Azor, Rochester Academy Charter - The Western NY native caught our scouts attention throughout the ZGXL and stood out in this setting as well. Azor finds ways to knock down catch and shoot threes from all over the court. He defends at a high level, forcing turnovers left and right, and is a spark of energy every time he steps on the court. Interest is buzzing around him.

Patrick Curtin, Glenelg Country - Curtin came and joined some of his Topp Tier teammates at the Elite 75, and did what he does. Scoring runs in his veins as he does so at-will and with ease. His range is limitless, he hits shots with a quickness, and over larger contesting defenders. As a passer, he does a great job of reading the floor, and can lead quick breaks in transition, tossing the ball down the court to teammates diving to the cup. Overall, Curtin holds offers from Bryant, NJIT, Mount St. Mary's, American, Towson, Bucknell, Loyola (MD), Wagner, Iona, Binghamton, and Lehigh. New England schools that are not familiar with the guard should definitely look into him.

Stockrisers

David Jannuzzi, Wilkes-Barre - The Pennsylvania native has impressed in his area at the point guard spot and carried that into the Elite 75. He runs the offense, directing traffic and making the right pass, while being able to get downhill and get a bucket as well.

Aundray Fowler, Amsterdam - Fowler has impressive scoring skills at the guard spot as he can use his quickness to get past defenders as a slasher, or hit the three ball. On defense he plays hard when guarding on-ball especially.

Ryan Larsh, Scituate - The RI native is the focal point on his RI Knights team, and put his talents on display at the showcase. Larsh plays a well-rounded game, whether it's switching on defense, hauling in boards, or crashing the basket and scoring in the post.

Mason Kocur, Weedsport Central - Kocur is an impressive spot up shooting threat in the upstate NY region. He does a good job of spacing the floor and getting to his spots. On the glass, he gets after it reeling in boards, and does not shy from contact.

Daniel Callen, Oswego - The guard did well in transition, running the floor and getting past the defense. He was knocking down three's with a fluidity and closed out well defensively.

Bryan Reyes, Reservoir - Despite his shorter stature, Reyes made a resounding impact at the showcase, and in the games he played in at ZGXL. He is a terrific on-ball defender who gives opposing guards a whole lot of trouble. He can knock down outside shots and has a shifty handle to get around defenders.

Ronald Alford, Glenelg Country - Alford is a two-way threat when he's on the court, impacting the game on both sides of the ball. On defense, he has quick feet and doesn't shy away from contact when guarding on-ball, and can force turnovers. He can make an impact as a scoring threat from inside and out, and is a guard schools should check out.

More Standouts

Connor Reilly, North Smithfield - Reilly impacts the game as a scoring threat from three-point range, and crashes the glass well on the offensive end to keep possessions going.

Nikolas Yudin, West Irondequoit - Yudin is a scrappy guard that can get physical on defense, using his body to push opposing players off their spots. He does well in transition situations on offense.

Owen Iannucci, Millbrook High School - The Millbrook HS product stands out with his spot-up shooting skills, hard box outs for rebounds, and moves in the post.

Sean Quinn, Webster Thomas - Quinn is a tough guard that can take a lot of contact if it means his team has a chance of winning. He limits turnovers by making smart decisions with the ball, and can hit three-pointers.

Rocco Natale, Amsterdam - The guard caught our eye with his ability to maneuver the ball and hit some shots out of the post.

Kingston Daley, Amsterdam - Daley looks to drive and kick a lot when getting downhill, and does so well. He gets into strong positioning for box outs and forces turnovers.

Nate Conca, Cranston West - Conca is a shorter guard that brings some jolt with his game along with a quick handle and pull-up shooting ability.

Oscar Lilac, Glens Falls HS - Lilac is a good point guard that brings the energy and quickness when he has the ball, and facilitates well.

Zachary Fallquist, Greens Farms Academy - Fallquist makes his impact on the game spacing the floor as a shooting threat, grabbing rebounds, and has touch in the paint.

Ryan Moore, Fairfield Warde - Moore is a knockdown three-point shooter, who did a good job sel-creating and getting teammates involved as well.

Joshua Stewart-Jones, Fairfield Warde - Connecticut’s Stewart-Jones made an impact as a three-level scorer in his ZGXL games and at the showcase. On the defensive end he gets after it as a pesky on-ball defender.

Roman Maldonado, Irondequit - Maldonado was forceful on the defensive end, using his active hands to crowd lanes and force turnovers. He plays with good pace, and attacks the basket at the right moment.

Brett Cartino, Liverpool - Cartino does a good job of cutting to the basket with quickness and finishing off the glass with defenders collapsing.

Teigen Gill, Corning-Painted Post - Gill made a strong name for himself at the showcase as a shooter and again did so in ZGXL play. He loads up and gets into shots smoothly and relocates well for catch and shoots.

Chase Leonardo, West Irondequoit - Leonardo is as good a shooter as they come and showed that as he hit seven three's in just one singular showcase game.

Tafari Reid, Moc Valley Prep - The Springfield native made the trip down to E75 and showed off his scoring abilities. Reid has smooth shot creation skills complemented by his handle, and can score it from inside and out. He will be an incoming postgrad at Moc Valley Prep.

Lucas LeGage, Portland - The Maine native made his second Elite 75 appearance of the summer, and continued to impress. Legage has caught our eye as a shooting threat in the past, but his gather and driving ability stood out in this setting.

Miles Nelen, Cooperstown Central - Nelen is a strong scoring threat from outside that can knock down three's in bunches, and get hot in an instant. He showed that in drills and games last week.

Achilles Fuentes, Wyoming Valley West - The guard brings quick agility to the court to get around the defense as a ballhandler. He looks to get to the basket when he can, and has solid vision as a passer.

Robert Fuentes, Wyoming Valley West - Fuentes caught our eye with his defensive effort and pulls in steals with quick timing. He pushes the pace in transition looking up the floor and plays with a good motor.
