Drummond; Thriving with Team USA & Reclassifying at STM
We told you last week that Andre Drummond was one of just 17 players from around the country selected to the Team USA Development National Team.
After a week of try-outs 12 of those 17 players will be selected to represent the United States this summer at the FIBA u16 National Championships.
Three days into those try-outs and Drummond is earning rave reviews. Jerry Meyer, recruiting analyst for Rivals.com, has been at the U.S. Olympic Training Center covering the try-outs this weekend and he profiled the Connecticut native in his recent article.
Notables from that story are the fact that Drummond measured 6’9.5” in shoes with an incredible 7’5” wingspan. He also named a recruiting list featuring UConn, Florida, UMass, West Virginia, North Carolina, Providence, and Rutgers.
Drummond also made news on Monday as ESPN announced their Super 60 list, ranking the top 60 players in the class of 2011. Drummond was the only New England product to make the cut (curiously absent was Brewster Academy’s Naadir Tharpe) and came in as the 30th best prospect in the sophomore class.
But this may be the last time you see him listed in the class of 2011 as Drummond recently confirmed to Rivals’ Jerry Meyer that he is headed to St. Thomas More School next year, where he will repeat his sophomore year and join the class of 2012.
The move not only gives Drummond three years to mature both on and off the court under STM head coach Jere Quinn, but it also puts him back in a class with kids his own age as he was actually a young sophomore this year.
