Doumbia Picks UMass

Earlier this week, Lee Academy/Team New England 6’11” big Amadou Doumbia announced that he would be reclassifying to the class of 2024 and taking his talents to UMass. The decision came despite also receiving offers from Bryant, St. Bonaventure, Rhode Island, George Mason, and Washington State.

Doumbia only recently jumped on to our radar, coming to New England from Mali to compete in the elite NEBL and Power 5-AAA conferences with Putnam Science Academy, as well as on the HGSL circuit with Team New England.

He began the year strong, catching our scouts’ eye during open gym season. We could tell that Doumbia would be a force, noting his paint control on both ends, as well as his superior athleticism for his size.

He tallied a near double-double with 11 points and 9 rebounds in a win against We Believe Academy in November to kick off the year. He would once again shine soon after in a victory over Hargrave Military Academy.

At the turn of the semester, he made the decision to transfer to Lee Academy to finish out the year with the Pandas up north in Maine. While they are no longer technically a part of NEPSAC-AAA, they still compete on a national level and have a history of success.

He continued to make an impact with the new squad, standing out at the NPSI in February. He earned Player of the Game honors following a 22-point performance in a win over NEBL power Brimmer & May.

He showed no signs of slowing, continuing his dominance throughout the rest of the year, and earning numerous standout honors at the Phenom Post-Grad Nationals in March.

It will be exciting to follow along as Amadou Doumbia spends his next chapter competing at the Division I level in the Atlantic-10/Mid-American Conferences with the Minutemen of UMass.
