Dascy Takes Road Less Traveled

St. Andrew’s head coach Mike Hart says that in his 16 seasons at the helm of the Saints program he can’t remember being more proud of one of his players and their decision making in the college process.

“He made his decision purely on academics,” Hart said.  “He had division I and division II scholarship offers but realized the position this decision would put him in when he is 30 years old.”

Youri Dascy spurned a handful of scholarship offers, the most recent of which came this weekend after his latest big performance at the National Prep School Invitational, and instead chose to stay close to home to get a top education at Brandeis.

“Youri is already fluent in French and Brandeis has a top international business program,” Hart said.  “I just wish more kids would follow the example of kids like Youri and Kyle Casey (currently a freshman at Harvard), and use basketball as a vehicle to a world class education.”

While the academic merit of Dascy’s decision is obvious, so to will his impact be on the basketball court next year.

Brandeis is consistently ranked among the top 25 d3 programs in the country and plays in the ultra competitive University Athletic Association which spans from Boston to Atlanta to New York to St. Louis to Pittsburgh to Cleveland.

“With the way they travel and the type of schedule they play, Youri will get a legitimate division I experience at a division III school,” Hart said.

Brandeis will be getting a big man capable of stepping right in and making an immediate impact.  Six-foot-seven with a super strong body, Dascy promises to be a dominant physical presence inside the paint on both ends of the floor.  He should spend the next four years as a consistent low post scorer and one of the staples of the Judges’ frontline.

And five years from now he should be getting started on a terrific career in international business…
