D3 Commitment Catch-Up 10/23

Over the past couple of weeks, a handful of D3 commitments were announced, including Troy Santos who heads to Hartford, Liam McBride who heads to Bowdoin, Sean O'Leary who heads to Bates, Tucker Tharpe who heads to RPI, Max Knight who heads to the University of New England, and Oscar Edelman who heads to Wesleyan.

Taunton High School/BCRI 2024 point guard Troy Santos really stood out this past summer, lighting it up for BCRI throughout the off-season. He is consistent from all three levels and has a good handle to create space from defenders. Santos was a standout at the Memorial Day Super 16 Showcase this past summer. It will be exciting to see him compete in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the former D1 Hartford Hawks.

Hingham High School all-time scoring leader and Middlesex Magic/Deerfield Academy post-grad 6’3” guard/wing Liam McBride is a sniper from downtown off the catch or dribble, and he uses his handles to slash effectively. When defenders collapse, he consistently makes the right decision in transition. It will be interesting to see how he does competing in the NESCAC up at Bowdoin.

Franklin High School/Middlesex Magic 2024 6’4” wing Sean O’Leary is a versatile player who knows how to get to the bucket to get the looks he wants around the rim. He uses his body to shield himself from defenders and keep them on his back when driving into the lane. He regularly finishes through contact and knocks down threes. O’Leary was really impressive at the Elite 75 College Showcase at Clark and for the this past summer. He also takes his talents to the NESCAC to join Bates for the 2024-25 season.

Champlain Valley Union/Blueprint 2024 6’6” forward Tucker Tharpe is a lengthy forward who has made a name for himself in the state of Vermont heading into his senior season. Tharpe uses his size and to score on the inside, also using a multitude of moves. He can also score it from deep and mid-range. He does a good job of altering shots and causing havoc on the defensive end. He currently sits at 7th in the state of Vermont on our 2024 rankings. It will be exciting to watch him play at RPI.

Rocky Hill/BCRI 6’7” center Max Knight always makes himself a presence in the paint, finishing well inside and getting after it on the glass. He is also dominant defensively, making drives harder for guards and being physical with bigs. He will be joining the University of New England for the 2024-25 season.

Finally, New Hampton/Rivals HGSL 6’8” forward Oscar Edelman is a stretch big who can rebound and find teammates well from the post. He was a major piece of the New Hampton squad last year in his first season competing at the NEPSAC Class-AAA level. He currently sits at 5th in the state of New Hampshire on our 2024 rankings. He is the third of the recent D3 commitments to head to the NESCAC, joining Wesleyan following this upcoming year.
