Connecticut 2013 Rankings Announced

Northwest Catholic sophomore Kuran Iverson remains the top ranked player in the state’s class of 2013 but he has a lot more competition than he had a year ago.

While Iverson’s upside remains unquestioned, he will be evaluated differently in the second half of his high school career as production gradually starts to outweigh potential and that will be the key as he looks to capitalize on his potentially devastating versatility.

The state also boasts two new big men who took their respective leagues by storm upon their arrival this year.  Salisbury’s Samuel Dingba may only be listed at 6’6”, but he impacts the game like a seven footer thanks to his length, mobility, and powerful frame.  He’s a dominant defensive presence already with the offensive tools to continue to expand his game in future years.

Not far behind is Sean Obi, who put up huge numbers this season at Green Farms Academy and is just now beginning to cut his teeth against high level competition on the AAU circuit where he has drawn comparisons to former New England prep star Majok Majok

A trio of the CIAC’s top sophomore guards occupies spots four through six on the Connecticut rankings beginning with Capital Prep’s Kahlil Dukes who has his stock on the rise as he continues to score in high volume while also demonstrating better decision making and unselfishness.  On his heels is Stratford’s Bernard Brantley and East Hartford’s Cane Broome, two other highly talented guards who have proven themselves on both the high school and AAU levels.

Kent’s Travis Berry is a guy who could very well find himself climbing this list in future years as he has the physical tools and basketball skills to eventually be a high level prospect once he puts it all together.  Hotchkiss forward Christopher Campbell is another highly skilled forward who could have a breakout performance in his future.

The battle for the final two spots comes down to a handful of guards who have all had strong seasons.  Ultimately we went with Christian Heritage’s Bryan Jones and Notre Dame’s Danny Upchurch but Trinity Catholic’s Schadarc Casimir, Avon Old Farm’s Jihaad Pretlow, and Trinity Catholic’s Schadrac Casimir are all in the hunt.
