Commitment Catch-Up pt. VII

During these busy past couple of months, five more local prospects announced their commitments to continue their basketball careers at the Division II level…

6’6” wing/forward Trevor White of Tabor Academy/Middlesex Magic HGSL recently shared his commitment to Western Washington for the next stage of his basketball journey. He charted some big performances throughout the season, including 14 points/4 rebounds and 17 points/7 rebounds in wins over Berkshire and Winchendon, respectively, at the Scholar Roundball Classic in December. His success continued throughout the year.

Bridgton Academy/XLP 6’2” point guard Silvano Ismail recently announced his commitment to Belmont Abbey for the next chapter of his career. Ismail transferred to Bridgton prior to this past season, just after being named the 2022-23 Maine Basketball Player of the Year at Cheverus High School. Currently at the top of the Maine 2024 rankings, he tallied a 20-point/11-rebound double-double to kick off the year against Fork Union Military Academy (VA) at the National Prep Showcase in November and continued his dominance throughout this season, also earning MVP honors at the Perkiomen tournament.

Another Bridgton Wolverine, UK-native 6’7” wing/forward Chris Yapo recently shared his commitment to Post for the next stage of his journey. Another top prospect out of Maine’s class of 2024, Yapo transferred to Bridgton after winning the UK’s EABL 3x3 Championship with the Derby College Trailblazers. He saw success right away, tallying a double-double against Fork Union Military Academy (VA) to kick off the year at the National Prep Showcase in November. He would continue to play a huge role for Bridgton throughout the season. The Wolverines finished the year as one of the nation’s top ranked prep teams.

The Winchendon School/Mid-Atlantic Select 6’6” wing Favor Okigweh recently announced his commitment to Shepherd University for the next chapter of his basketball career. The Baltimore area native came to New England after leading Parkville High School to Maryland’s MPSSAA Class 4A State Championship. He dominated the paint at Parkville, averaging 18 points/12 rebounds as only a junior during the 2021-22 season (2022-23 not recorded).

6’6” shooting guard Hudson Geremia of The Newman School/Team New England recently shared his commitment to Assumption to take his talents to the Northeast 10 conference. He was a standout throughout the year, dropping 20 and 18 at the Scholar Roundball Classic in wins over Polaris Prep and Bradford Christian, respectively, and shooting 57% from deep through both contests. He also led Newman’s national team with 12 in a win over St. Thomas More at the National Prep Championship Showcase to close out the year, also grabbing 6 boards. Altogether, he averaged 9 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.3 3-pointers made per game with a 2.6 assist to turnover ratio for Newman’s national team throughout the season.

St. Thomas More/Rens United 6’3” guard James LaFrance recently announced his commitment to Eckerd College for the next stage of his career, heading to Florida to compete in the Sunshine State Conference. He has been all over the NEPSAC, moving from Hamden Hall Country Day to Newman prior to the 2022-23 season, then again from Newman to St. Thomas More before this past year. He tallied 11 points/5 rebounds on just under 50% from the floor in a tight battle with Newman to finish the year.
