Commitment Catch-Up

While the New England Recruiting Report does our best to keep up with commitments throughout the region, and to all levels of college basketball, there are inevitably still some that slip through the cracks.

Here's a look back at some of those recent pledges:

• Notre Dame Fairfield, which made an unexpected run to the CIAC Class M finals before falling to weaver, has had two of their seniors finalize their college plans in recent weeks. C.J. Davidson is heading to Albertus Magnus College and Jake Heaton is moving on to Roger Williams College. Davidson is a powerful and aggressive guard with a quick first step who is at his best attacking the rim while Heaton is a heady two-guard who is both a high I.Q. player and good passer as well as a dependable three-point shooter.
• Cushing Academy swingman Brendan Miller has verbally committed to Clark University in Worcester. A strong and athletic presence on the wing, Miller provides toughness and a dependable two-way player who can both slash and defend. Miller has run with the New England Storm for the last six years and program director Rick Gorman had this to say: "I am extremely happy for Brendan, he has spent six years wearing the Storm colors and I have had the pleasure of knowing him since he was a middle school student. Coach Phillips is going to get a tough and physical wing who can cover a number of positions. Brendan is not afraid to do all the dirty work and will most definitely find an immediate role for Clark University."
• Brewster Academy guard Jamani Spencer is heading to Pepperdine next year after accepting a spot on the team as a recruited walk-on. Spencer provided valuable perimeter depth on a Bobcats team that very likely had the best backcourt in the entire country, at both the high school or prep school levels. The California native will fill a similar role next year at Pepperdine and becomes the 10th member of Brewster's team to commit to a scholarship level school for next season.
• Northfield Mount Hermon senior point guard Jashanti Allen is headed to WPI next season where he should be able to make an immediate contribution for the Engineers. Allen set a NMH record during his four year playing career, suiting up for 108 wins. A proven playmaker who can get into the teeth of the defense, take care of the ball and create for those around him, Allen will be as experienced and battle-tested a freshmen point guard as there is in the division III ranks next year.
• Malden Catholic (MA) senior forward Karlens Joas is heading to Connecticut next year to do a post-graduate year at the Taft School. A true stat stuffer who was known for his ability to rebound and pass the ball as much score it during his high school career, Joas is equally valuable on the defensive end of the floor with his long and athletic build and should immediate come a key part of Taft's team next season.
• Kimball Union Academy senior big man Charlie Williams made a verbal commitment to Skidmore in February. A rugged six-foot-eight post player, Williams will provide a valuable physical presence inside the paint on both ends of the floor and a potential high volume rebounder as well. Wildcats post-graduate guard Eli Frater is also off the board and heading to Bates next season to play in the NESCAC. The New York City product was the team's second leading scorer this season and also an accomplished defender as well.
