Cheshire Sending Another D1

Cheshire Academy capped a busy October with their fourth commitment of the month on Saturday when Thomas Huerter pledged to Siena.

Huerter joins Elijah Pemberton (Hofstra), Ray Jerome (Penn) and Clayton Le Sann (Holy Cross) to become the fourth Cheshire Academy product to commit to a division I school in a matter of weeks.

Huerter graduated from nearby Shenendehowa high school last year where he and his younger brother, ESPN 100 guard and Maryland commit Kevin Huerter, led the team to a state championship in their final year together.

The Huerter family has deep ties to Siena. Huerter's father, Thomas Huerter Sr., starred from the Saints from 1987 to 1991, and currently serves as the team's television and radio analyst. Huerter's mother, Erin Huerter, is also an alum of the college while both he and his brother were ball boys in the program as children.

The Times Union is reporting that Huerter has at least a "three-for-four" (meaning he'll be on scholarship from his sophomore to senior season) but may join the team as a walk-on during his freshman season if no scholarship opens up between now and then.

While Huerter had a strong high school career at Shenendehowa, he's been playing perhaps the best basketball of his career this fall and was absolutely on fire when NERR visited the Cheshire Academy gym a couple of months ago. He's shooting the ball extremely well from behind the three-point line but is also a good ball-handler and obviously intelligent player.
