Billy Marsden has a long list of awards and accolades from his basketball career thus far – Boston Globe All Scholastic, Boston Herald All Scholastic, 1000 point scorer, state champion…and now scholarship player. 

According to the Scott Hazelton Blog, Marsden has accepted a three for four scholarship (meaning he’ll get an athletic scholarship for the final 3 years of his college career) from SNHU and will receive an academic scholarship covering a significant portion of his freshman season.

Marsden has developed a reputation for being one of the most clutch players in the state of Massachusetts.  Last season, he was part of deep and talented Central Catholic High School team that won the school’s first state title since 1999.  Even while sharing the court with players like Adrian Gonzalez, Wilfredo Pagan, and Carson Desrosiers, it was still Marsden who was the team’s primary go-to player down the stretch of tight games. 

This year, Marsden and Desrosiers have returned to form perhaps the most lethal 1-2 punch in the MIAA.  The duo once again has Central Catholic sitting atop the standings, as they entered the post-season as the consensus top ranked team in the state and favorite to repeat in division I. 

On the AAU circuit, Marsden has been a longtime member of the Mass. Rivals organization, where he shown his abilities competing at the highest level of competition from coast to coast. 

“There are very few players who I have coached in my 25 year career that play with the intensity and desire that Marsden does,” said Rivals coach Vin Pastore.

But it’s not just his unquestioned intangibles that will help to make him a success at the next level.  Marsden is someone who can play either guard position, shoots the ball tremendously well from the perimeter, and is also a very underrated passer. 

At the time of his commitment, Marsden became the second New England product to pledge to Southern New Hampshire, joining his Mass Rivals teammate Hanell Velez.
