Canterbury’s Alexander Makes Pick
Canterbury School point guard Trayvon Alexander made a verbal commitment to The College of St. Rose, accepting their full athletic scholarship offer.
The New York native has done nothing but win over the course of the last two years, in both the prep and grassroots ranks.
Last spring and summer he ran the show for a Crown Athletics squad that went 38-2 and won five different major championships including the Spring Jam Fest, Pitt Jam Fest, Providence Jam fest, Atlantic City Jam Fest, and DC Jam Fest.
This winter, he led Canterbury to the NEPSAC Class B championship, after falling in the finals a year prior. He averaged 10 points, 7 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 steals per game. "Relationships are important to me" he told NERR's Zack Sandberg. "Coach Perno & Murray and I have a great relationship and I feel like I have the opportunity to help impact the culture in a very positive way"
"Tray is a winner and has a great impact on winning. I'm not sure there's a better compliment than that," said Canterbury head coach Brain Baudinet. "His combined record in the past year is 63-4 and he was the point guard and leader for both teams."
Alexander came up the ranks as an undersized scoring guard but evolved into a pure point guard who now makes those around him better not just with his passing and playmaking but also with his approach and mentality.
"Even in practice, it didn't matter who he was playing with, his teams almost always won," Baudinet said. "Teammates love playing with him because he gets them the ball in great position to be successful and he's a very effective communicator," Baudinet said.
"I think some coaches had concerns about his height, but the bottom line is he's a leader, he's vocal, he's competitive, he's tough, and he wins. I think every program would want a guy like that."
Below are some of his highlights from his senior season.
