Canterbury Seven-Footer Picks Ivy League

It seems like a long time ago when Princeton was the predominant power in the Ivy League.

Even last year’s return to the NCAA tournament now seems like a brief return to glory as head coach Sydney Johnson moved on to Fairfield just as the majority of the line-up’s firepower graduated.

Now, first year head coach Mitch Henderson has taken over a program that suddenly found itself trailing in this fall’s recruiting wars after Harvard, Penn, and others have scored big wins.

But the Tigers struck back in a big way on Thursday when they scored three separate verbal commitments including Canterbury seven-footer Ed Lawrence

Coming off a breakout summer, Lawrence had a variety of high academic recruitment to start his senior season at Canterbury.  Ultimately he chose to take official visits to Yale and Princeton, finally deciding on the Tigers on Thursday.

Lawrence has improved by leaps and bounds in the twelve months since he arrived from his home in England, but his best basketball is very clearly still in front of him as he continues to gain muscle mass and experience to round out his undeniable tools and upside.

Also committing to Princeton on Thursday was Hans Brase, a six-foot-eight power forward from the Hill School in Pennsylvania, as well as Mike Washington, a six-foot-three guard from Seattle Oak Harbor.
