Burrell Calls it for URI

The University of Rhode Island scored another talented recruit on Friday night when Trahson Burrell gave head coach Jim Baron a verbal commitment.

Burrell is an Albany native who debuted in New England last year at St. Thomas More and only recently transferred to Notre Dame Prep.  He has been consistently recruited at the high-major level since arriving on the prep scene and was one of the best available swingmen in the northeast.

While Burrell is most effective in transition, both able to lead the break with his ball skills as well as run lanes because of his speed and athleticism, and consequently an ideal fit in URI's up-tempo system, his half-court game is tremendously improved within the last twelve months as well.

Once known as someone who defenders could play off of, he is now a consistent threat from the three-point line, making him much more of a complete offensive player and someone who can put points on the board in high volume.

Burrell is the second player to committ to URI in the class of 2011, joining six-foot-three swingman T.J. Buchanan from Kalamazoo Central High School in Michigan.
