BU Keeps OBrien
Reigning America East rookie of the year Jake O’Brien has decided to return to Boston University for his sophomore season. O’Brien asked for, and was granted, his release following the school’s firing of former head coach Dennis Wolff.
Nonetheless, Chambers continued to pursue O’Brien upon landing the BU job, essentially recruiting him as if he would any other uncommitted player.
O’Brien visited St. Joseph’s and Temple in recent weeks and was generating interest from other Atlantic 10 and Big East programs. But ultimately the Massachusetts native decided to return for BU and suit up for Chambers.
The story was first reported by Fox Sport’s Jeff Goodman on his blog Good ‘N Plenty.
“It was definitely a tough decision and I learned a lot about myself in the last month,” O’Brien told Goodman. “But I think what I learned the most is that BU is the place for me.”
O’Brien, a skilled 6-foot-7 ½ forward, averaged 12.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per game last year. He’ll be returning to a Terrier line-up widely considered to be the most talented in the America East next season.
“We have a good bunch of guys and a very talented team,” O’Brien said. “We have a chance to win the league and I’m looking forward to playing for Coach Chambers.”
And you can bet Chambers is looking forward to coaching O’Brien…
