Brooks Forward Earns Scholarship

Connor Mahoney, who starred for Brooks School and the Middlesex Magic, committed to Le Moyne College on Friday, accepting a full athletic scholarship.

Mahoney began last season on the sidelines after tearing his ACL, but not only worked his way back into the line-up before the end of the season for Brooks, but was seemingly back to 100% by the time the summer evaluation period rolled around.

July began with a  late invitation to the New England Elite 75 Showcase, where he proved himself more than capable of holding his own against the best prospects the region has to offer.  It was more of the same as the summer continued as Mahoney was at his best when the lights were on the brightest at the AAU Super Showcase and Nationals in Orlando, collecting over 25 points and 10 rebounds in three consecutive games.

“Connor [Mahoney] is the total package,” Middlesex Magic director Michael Crotty Jr. said.  “He is a leader, both vocally and by example, and he has an all-around game that I think will translate beautifully in the NE-10 conference.”

Mahoney’s commitment came after visiting the school and developing a relationship with the coaching staff, including assistant coach Mike Smiley, who is an alum of the Middlesex Magic program.

Crotty described Mahoney as an outstanding shooter, fantastic defender, and one of the best rebounders he has ever coached.  Most of all, he said his understanding of the game and high basketball I.Q. were what truly set him apart.

“Connor is one of the best people I have ever had the chance to be around,” he continued, “and I am certain that Le Moyne just received a commitment from a young man that will leave an indelible mark on the school, both on and off the court.”
