Kelton Samore 2019

Bridgton Academy post-graduate Kelton Samore announced a verbal commitment to American University on Tuesday.

The 6-foot-8 forward is a native of Oregon who graduated from Grant High School a year ago, where he won a state championship as a senior before traveling across the country to Maine.

This year, he had a strong season for the Wolverines and continued to attract division I interest this spring with American, Cal Baptist, and Troy all making him a priority.

He visited American's Washington D.C. campus this past weekend though and had a decision less than 48 hours later.

“I went down there on my official visit this past weekend and I just really fell in love with the campus and the team and everything and the position they had for me," Samore told Prep Hoops. "They were recruiting me really hard and they really wanted me and I’ll get a chance to play there. On top of that, the education – their business program is one of the top in the country every which is what I want to major in.”

Samore is big man who is skilled across the board and able to attack his match-up in various ways. He's efficient scoring around the lane with good hands, touch, and footwork, but is also very effective facing up less mobile big men and attacking off the bounce. He's a solid frontcourt passer and has floor-spacing potential to develop moving forward.
