Bridgton Duo Heading D2
Bridgton Academy is reporting two scholarship level commitments from their most recent 2014 class.
Maine native and South Portland High School alum Tanner Hyland and Massachusetts native and Central Catholic High School alum Joel Berroa are both off to the division II level after committing to Le Moyne College and Stonehill College respectively.
Hyland, who starred with the Maine Athletic Club on the AAU circuit, made dramatic improvements during the last year. You could see his game going to unprecedented levels last spring, when he not only appeared a step quicker but also began shooting the ball better than ever before, and established his pull-up as a clear-cut weapon.
He had similar success during his post-graduate season, not only acting as Bridgton’s point guard and primary ball-handler but also one of their best offensive weapons and earning a scholarship from Le Moyne in the process.
Berroa, who previously ran with the New England Storm before a fractured foot prevented him from playing his final AAU season, proved to be another major contributor to this year’s Wolverine team.
The six-foot-four forward has is a major mismatch problem because he is thick and strong, especially in his lower body, but yet deceptively skilled. He handles the ball well for his size, is capable of making plays off the dribble, and also very proficient at creating space inside the lane.
He becomes the third local New England product to join Stonehill’s 2014 recruiting class joining Hampden Academy (ME) swingman Isaiah Bess and Cardinal Spellman (MA) point guard Ryan Roach.
