Boston’s Jaeden Roberts to Hofstra

Last night, it was announced that Putnam Science and Team New England scoring guard Jaeden Roberts has committed to the Hofstra Pride of the CAA.

Roberts, a native of Boston, had seen a tremendous boost in his stock as a recruit over the past calendar year.

In September of 2024, Roberts received his first Division One offer from the Fairfield Stags.

Over the course of the next 10 months, he would receive offers from Gardner-Webb, Marist, Iona, Albany, UMass Lowell and his ultimate choice, Hofstra.

The sudden recruitment at the highest level of the NCAA came as no surprise as a scout who has watched Roberts over the past two to three years, as he has dominated games for years.

He began his career at Jeremiah E. Burke High School (now Holland Tech) in Dorchester Massachusetts, where he was a starter right away as a freshman.

In his freshman season, Roberts controlled the squad as the point guard and led them to their first Boston City League title in 24 years. The next year, Burke would repeat as City League champions, led by Roberts, who averaged around 18 points per game as a sophomore that year.

In his final season at Burke, Roberts was a driving force behind the Bulldogs' run to the semifinals of the MIAA postseason tournament. That season was chock-full of big-time outings from the Hofstra commit as the Dorchester-based squad finished the regular season with a 16-3 record.

Following that season, the guard transferred to Putnam Science Academy, enrolling in the class of 2026.

The Mustangs at Putnam are known for having a deep roster and rolling out their players in “hockey lines” throughout games. To simplify what this means, Roberts would have to be comfortable with taking a lesser role than what he was used to with Burke to gel with the team.

Looking back on it now, it’s safe to say that things worked out for both parties in this partnership. Roberts was a major piece to the Mustangs' 38-2 season that saw them take home both the Power Five AAA title and the ultimate goal, the 2025 National Prep Championship title.

Throughout the years, the Boston native was a major piece to the success that Team New England has seen on multiple independent circuits, and in big contests with sneaker teams. His name has become synonymous with the program, and he will certainly go down in the books as one of the most memorable players to suit up under Isaiah Davis.

For fans of the Hofstra Pride, Roberts fits the mold of the electric backcourt scorer they have become used to over the years in the likes of Aaron Estrada, Tyler Thomas, Jean Aranguren, etc.

The best way to describe his game is that he is flat-out a bucket. He brings a unique aspect to the floor as a southpaw guard that shakes defenders off with ease using his crafty ball-handling skills. He has a smooth touch as an outside shooter, attacks the rim, and has grown more and more as a playmaker.

As the summer wraps up and we get into August, the next step in the Boston natives journey has begun earlier than once anticipated.
