Blackburn To Binghamton

Just today, it was announced that Worcester Academy and The House We Built wing, Jake Blackburn, will be taking his talents to Binghamton University in neighboring New York.

For Blackburn, the decision-making process must have been challenging, as he received numerous scholarship offers between June 2023 and July 2024.

During his time at Worcester, Blackburn contributed to two consecutive NEPSAC AA championship teams, coming off the bench. His role was crucial, providing a shooting spark behind standouts like TJ Power, Tre Norman, Kayvaun Mulready, and others, all of whom earned Division I opportunities.

With the departure of Power, Norman, Declan Ryan, Todd Brogna, and Parker Jones after the 2022-23 season, Worcester Academy faced a significant void in scoring. Blackburn began to fill that gap, stepping into a larger role during the June 2023 scholastic live period events, marking the start of his ascent as a key contributor.

While it wasn’t the official breakout for the 2025 wing Jake Blackburn—he had already made a name for himself in the HGSL with The House We Built—his rise gained more momentum when he received his first offer from nearby Holy Cross shortly after.

Once the 2023-24 prep school season got underway though, scholarship opportunities started to flood in for the Shrewsbury native.

After a string of high-scoring games where he consistently knocked down three-pointers with efficiency, Blackburn earned offers from Stonehill, Fordham, and Boston University.

His standout performance came during the HoopHall Prep Showcase, where an undermanned Worcester Academy team dominated CATS Academy 83-55.

Whether playing for The House We Built in the Hoop Group live period events or with Worcester Academy, Blackburn caught the attention of college coaches with his sharpshooting.

Offers from Binghamton, Canisius, Maine, Marist, Stony Brook, and NJIT followed, and Blackburn ultimately chose the Bearcats of Binghamton.

When asked about his decision, Blackburn expressed gratitude to those who have supported him throughout his journey: “Thank you to my mom and dad for helping me throughout my journey and the recruiting process, along with my coaches from both Worcester Academy and The House We Built.”

He then explained why Binghamton felt like the right fit: “Binghamton always stood out because of the great relationship I’ve had with the coaches. From day one, they’ve been consistent with me, and when I went on my visit, it felt like a second home, seeing how the coaches and players interacted."

Blackburn also highlighted how his shooting ability was a major factor in his choice: “Being a shooter is something they need and highly value, and they’ve communicated that my ability to shoot could get me playing time right away,” he said, acknowledging how his long-range marksmanship could make an immediate impact at the NCAA level.

Before heading to Binghamton, Blackburn has one more season at Worcester Academy, and he’s set high expectations for himself and the team: “For my last year at Worcester, I plan to end on a high note and win the NEPSAC AA championship,” he said, expressing his desire to bring another title to Worcester.

The Worcester Academy Hilltoppers will face tough competition in NEPSAC-AA, but with the talent currently on their roster, the goal is well within reach.

Keep an eye on Blackburn and the team as the season gets underway in the coming months.
