Bertram Makes Pick in 2018
Vermont Academy guard Tyler Bertram returned to his former high school in Cooperstown, New York to announce his college commitment on Tuesday night.
After having previously trimmed his list to just seven schools - St. Joseph's, Brown, Hofstra, Loyola Chicago, Rice, Charlotte, and George Washington - he took official visits to St. Joseph's and Charlotte in recent weeks.
Charlotte had something unique to offer him, an opportunity to join the program right away, and that was enough for him to shut down his recruitment and cancel the rest of his visits.
Bertram had reclassified from 2018 to 2019 last year upon transferring into Vermont Academy and so had already completed his fourth year of high school.
Bertram, who had already returned to Vermont Academy for the 2018-2019 school year, will now return to Charlotte immediately and join the team for the coming season as a red-shirt freshman, meaning he isn't expected to play in games until the 2019-20 season.
The 6-foot-3 guard exceeded expectations from day one at VA last season, becoming a quick standout at fall open gyms and racking up offers as high as the Atlantic 10 Conference in the process. He raised the level of his game again mid-season when the team was struck by injuries and reportedly averaged over 20 points per game over the last six weeks of the season.
This spring and summer he joined the New York Rens and shot 41% from behind the three-point line to help the Rens return to the EYBL Finals at the Peach Jam.
Below are some of his highlights from last season with Vermont Academy.
