Anthony Nimani Commits to Cornell

Last weekend, Berkshire/The House We Built 6’4” post-grad point guard Anthony Nimani committed to Cornell for the 2024-25 season, which will follow his post-grad year at Berkshire this year.

Nimani entered the prep basketball world after becoming the all-time scoring leader at Platt High School in Connecticut, where he competed in the CIAC. Nimani scored his 1000th point of his high school career last December. He was named an CHSCA (D3) All-Star after averaging 27 points per game throughout the season.

This past summer, Nimani was a standout at the Elite 75 College Showcase. During the grassroots season he averaged roughly 13 points, 10 assists, 5 rebounds, and 2 charges taken per game for The House We Built in the HoopGroup Showcase League, picking up offers from St. Michael’s (D2), Citadel, and Cornell along the way.

In speaking with NERR’s Dylan Thayer, THWB Head Coach & Program Director Alfred Chan described Nimani as being a “huge difference maker for us.” He went on, explaining how Nimani “produced on the court and also with his leadership and competitiveness.” Chan also said that Nimani “wanted to guard the opponents’ best player,” and that he “simply makes everyone around him better.”

Chan had a ton to share on Nimani, going into great depth not only regarding his attributes as a basketball player on the court, but also about who he is as a person and teammate.

“I can't say enough about his character either; even better human than his bball talent—humble, works hard, gels with the guys off the court…” Chan said, highlighting who Nimani is as a person beyond just basketball. “He impacts winning and does whatever his team needs,” Chan continued. “At Platt, he is the all-time leading scorer and had to take on that mantle. With us, he could score, but he really showcased his point guard abilities: got the ball to our bigs, and got the wings and shooters their shots,” he finished.

NERR’s Dylan Thayer also had the chance to touch base with the future Ivy League hooper himself, who gave us his thoughts.

“I chose Cornell because of the coaching staff and also the academics,” said Anthony Nimani. “The post-grad year put me in a position to play in front of the Cornell coaching staff. They are also one of the better teams in the Ivy, and I want to be able to help them win an Ivy League Championship,” he ultimately concluded.
