Ajou to Northwestern
St. Thomas More’s seven-foot-two center Chier Ajou committed to Northwestern last week after taking visits to their campus as well as Butler’s.
Ajou is a native of the Sudan who spent two years at Culver Academies in Indiana, where he initially committed to New Mexico. Following his graduation and subsequent de-commitment he arrived at St. Thomas More for a post-graduate year.
He averaged 14 points, 9 rebounds and just under 3 blocks per year this year for the Chancellors, while demonstrating a high skill level for a player of his size. That skill level is going to be critical at Northwestern as he’ll play the center position in the team’s Princeton style offense.
"The addition of Chier completes a terrific freshman class that we're very excited about," Northwestern head coach Bill Carmody said. "He is an outstanding young man who is athletic, has great upside and is a good fit for our program. He'll provide our team with a dimension we haven't seen in a while."
Ajou, who is the first cousin of Chicago Bulls forward Luol Deng, will be the tallest player to ever wear a Northwestern uniform. He will be one of seven new faces to join a Wildcats team that fell just short of the NCAA tournament in 2012.
