Agawam Guard Earns Scholarship
It was last June, about one month prior to the July evaluation period, that New England Recruiting Report and ESPN Boston contributor Paul Lazdowski brought some long overdue attention to a prospect who had flown under the radar, despite putting up some of the most impressive numbers in all of New England.
While Tyler Desrosiers doesn’t necessarily pass the “look test,” that most scholarship level coaches rely on to quickly gauge prospects, the six-foot-two guard has let his game doing the talking for him over the years, and this season in particular it’s been saying some pretty convincing things.
Desrosiers, who is best known for his long range shooting ability, is averaging over 28 points per game this season for Agawam while also showcasing a more versatile offensive arsenal.
What he may lack in natural explosiveness he makes up for with both skill and intelligence. He’s a throwback style guard in that he’s very clever and crafty. He understands how to use his body, operate at various angles, and get his shot off in different ways.
Desrosiers accepted an athletic scholarship from Post University on Monday. Post is an NCAA division II school in Waterbury, Connecticut that competes in the Central Athletic Collegiate Conference. The Eagles feature a veteran laden line-up this season and will lose nine different seniors following the season.
Their rebuilding efforts will be particularly important in the backcourt and around the three-point line, after graduating almost their entire perimeter rotation as well as their top five three-point shooters.
That’s a situation that should be tailor made to Desrosiers’ strengths as he’ll be able to come in and compete for immediate playing time thanks to his high basketball I.Q. and undeniable ability to make shots from long range.
