8th Grader Drills 11 Threes in One Game

With a last name like Donahue, it should come as no surprise that Mystic Middle School 8th grader Matthew Donahue can really shoot the basketball.

He’s the fourth Donahue brother to make waves coming up through the New England ranks, following in the footsteps of older brothers Kevin, Sam, and Jackson.

Oldest brother Kevin Donahue starred for Stonington High School before earning a full scholarship to play at Assumption College in the Northeast 10 Conference.  The senior guard led the team in scoring (16.3 ppg), minutes (37.9 mpg), and three-pointers made (80) this year.

Sam Donahue recently completed his first season at Northfield Mount Hermon, working his way into the starting line-up by the end of the year and being a critical component to the team that went on to win the NEPSAC AAA championship and come within a possession of knocking off second seeded Hargrave Military Academy at the National Prep Championship.

Next up is Jackson Donahue, the latest brother to star at Stonington High School, who recently wrapped up a sophomore season in which he led the team in scoring and three-pointers made en route to establishing himself as one of the top underclassmen in the entire CIAC.

With those types of bloodlines, it is obvious that Matthew Donahue comes from good stock.  It should surprise no one that this latest Donahue is yet another expert marksman from behind the three-point line, and earlier this season he did something that none of his brothers could match by knocking down eleven three-pointers and scoring 49 points in a game for Mystic Middle School, a 69-66 loss to Fitch Middle School.

Donahue, who runs with the Rhode Island Hawks on the AAU circuit, is just one young up and coming star who will be in attendance at next weekend’s Junior Elite 75 Showcase, where he will undoubtedly be one of the best pure shooters in the field.
