2025 St. Thomas More Prep Profile

The Chancellors have been led by Jere Quinn for nearly 50 years and running. Fresh off an appearance in the National Prep Championship game, St. Thomas More is looking to keep things rolling heading into the 2025-26 season.

Having reloaded following the matriculation of many seniors/postgraduates, it will be interesting to see how things play out for the Oakdale, Connecticut-based program.

The Returners

DJ Hawkins leads the way as a key returner for the program heading into his junior season. The 6’7” wing has continuously improved over the years, contributing as a strong secondary scoring threat on the wing, who can pressure the basket or knock down shots off the catch.

Bentley Shelton, a big guard in the junior class, is another key player coming back to the squad this season. Standing at around 6’6, Shelton brings shooting and length, a coveted asset by college coaches.

Kur Anyang is the only other player running with the AAA team that was at the school last season; however, he was playing with the varsity team and not the prep team. Anyang has made strides in his development and will make an impact as a mobile, versatile weapon on the defensive end.

The Newcomers

The rest of Coach Quinn’s AAA team features a number of new names who were not with the program last season. However, one caveat of that is that there are a few names we are very familiar with from playing in different New England programs in the past – Patrick Otey, Greyson Pierce, and Dave Smith.

Otey, a member of the Brazilian national team program, has been a familiar face in the New England ranks for years despite making a brief stop with Overtime Elite last season. His ability to score the ball effectively, efficiently, and with a smooth pace will be key for the Chancellors.

Greyson Pierce joins the team from Loomis-Chaffee. Pierce, another 6’7” wing, will play a major role within the squad next season. He brings a ton of shotmaking to the floor at multiple levels, which, combined with his size and skill, will be a tough matchup. Smith, a bigger guard from Glastonbury High School, has a reputation for being a physical slasher and is expected to be a postgrad to know in Connecticut.

Out-of-region players joining the program include Dillon Callahan, Johnny Keenan, Aima Sekiya, Josh Okoduwa, Bryce Liu, and Nic Hernandez.

Callahan and Keenan make their way up to New England by way of New York’s Iona Prep, a short trip over. Callahan is known for his ability to rebound the ball out of the backcourt, to serve as a connecting playmaker on the perimeter, and for his ability to get to the basket on the fastbreak. Keenan’s quickness off the dribble makes him a tough guard for the defense as he can also create for himself and captain the offense.

Okoduwa joins from St. Benedict’s Prep in New Jersey and will be an important piece to the lineup in the frontcourt. Standing at 6’9, he is arguably the tallest player on the current roster. His ability to impact the game with his length and mobility at the five spot adds to the versatility the Chancellors will bring to the floor.

Sekiya’s ability to score with his crafty handle, Liu’s blend of size and shooting, and Hernandez’s catch-and-shoot prowess will be big factors for the team as well this season.

Beware, there have been talks of a big man or two potentially joining the team in the very near future, maybe even as soon as the next few days. Keep an eye out for a post from the team..

Defining Characteristics

There is definitely a good amount of turnover from last season in Oakdale, but that has been a recurring trend for the program for many years. With a group of highly-talented returning junior’s they have leadership, as well as a lot of versatility with the size and switchability their lineup presents.

Bottom Line

We know at the end of the day that Coach Quinn will have his squad ready to go once November comes around, as he’s done competently for almost five decades now, and the squad will surely be one of the most competitive in the region.
