2025 Prep Profile: Vermont Academy

Nestled in the scenic town of Saxtons River, Vermont Academy has established itself as one of New England’s premier prep basketball programs. Built on a foundation of player development, academic balance, and competitive excellence, VA has earned a reputation for producing next-level talent while maintaining a strong sense of community and discipline.

Competing in the highly regarded NEPSAC, Vermont Academy attracts student-athletes from across the country and abroad, offering them an environment that mirrors the demands of college basketball—both on and off the court.

The Returners

Rokas Zilys returns to Vermont Academy after spending his senior season at Marist High School, making his way back to Saxtons River for a graduate year. A familiar face to the program, Zilys brings three years of prior experience at VA along with his trademark shooting ability, defensive toughness, and high basketball IQ. His leadership and familiarity with the system should make him an immediate impact player once again.

Musa Kasanga continues to develop into one of Vermont Academy’s most versatile wings. Renowned for his 3-and-D skill set, Kasanga brings energy and efficiency on both sides of the ball while showing growth as a rebounder. His ability to space the floor and defend multiple positions makes him a key piece in VA’s rotation.

DJ King is the Wildcats’ floor general with some of the best court vision in New England. His ability to read defenses and find the open man consistently keeps the offense in rhythm. On the defensive end, King uses his length and instincts to disrupt passing lanes and pressure ball handlers.

Kamari Whyte is a hard-nosed guard whose defensive intensity ranks among the best in New England. A dynamic scorer, Whyte consistently finds ways to put the ball in the basket—whether it’s attacking the rim or knocking down shots from deep. An intriguing prospect in the Class of 2027, he plays with confidence and edge on both ends of the floor.

Filip Mozoul, a 6’8” forward with an offer from St. Bonaventure, is a skilled stretch big who spaces the floor with his smooth shooting stroke. He’s equally valuable on the defensive end, where his physicality and shot-blocking ability help ignite transition opportunities for VA.

Landon Whiting, another key returner, stands at 6’7” and anchors the paint with his rim protection and defensive awareness. His high basketball IQ allows him to make timely cuts and smart reads, creating easy scoring opportunities around the basket. Whiting’s presence on both ends adds stability and toughness to the Wildcats’ frontcourt.

The Newcomers

Abe Camara, a versatile 6’6” wing, elevates everyone around him with his unselfish play and feel for the game. His length and mobility make him a defensive asset, capable of clogging passing lanes and switching seamlessly across multiple positions.

Mana Camara brings energy and toughness to the backcourt. A quick, disciplined guard, he uses his lateral speed to lock up opposing ball handlers and can fill up the scoreboard with his reliable perimeter shooting.

Matthew Jernigan, a big guard transferring in from Oyster River High School in New Hampshire, will be a solid scoring option for the Wildcats this winter. The guard is known for his efficient shotmaking and ability to rise up and attack the rim on drives.

Mike Bradley Jr., a 6’5” wing, adds another dynamic scoring option for the Wildcats. He thrives at getting to his spots and consistently hits tough, contested shots. Bradley attacks the rim with strength and body control, showing the ability to finish through contact against bigger defenders.

Defining Characteristics

Depth is a common theme at the AAA level, and Vermont seemingly has a strong rotation of guys who will come in and be expected to contribute throughout the winter. They offer a nice blend of backcourt scoring and size on the wing, with their one vice possibly being not having a ton of options at the five, but that could change with big seasons from Filip Mozoul and Stanyslas Dhondt.

The Bottom Line

We know that John Zall will have this squad ready to go once the season gets underway, and it will be interesting to see how things play out for them. Coming off an unanticipated run to the Final Four in the National Prep Championship Tournament, VA will have to be ready to go right away.
