2025 Prep Profile: Lawrence
It's not often to find players who have dominated their age group since they were in middle school, but if you know the name Alex Egbuonu and have followed NERR for the past few years, you'd know Alex has done just that.
Since bursting onto the scene as a young middle schooler from New Hampshire, Egbuonu has done nothing but exceed expectations at every stop and turned himself into one of the most respected players in the region.
Today, Egbuonu is set to make his college decision. He will be choosing between Auburn, Boston College, Marquette, Stanford, and Villanova.
This year’s Lawrence Academy team is one of the most talented and deepest teams they have had since Shabazz Napier was on campus years ago, and they will be able to go as far as Alex can lead them.
Adding to the continuity from last year are the returning backcourt duo of 2026 Evan Mitchner Jr and 2027 AJ Reinertson. Mitchner is expected to handle a majority of the ball-handling duties again and is hearing from high academic schools of all levels. His ability to run the offense, facilitate, and get his own buckets will be vital to their success.
Reinertson is a knockdown shooter and Swiss Army Knife defender who is in his 3rd year in the program and is a part of a very talented trio of 2027 prospects. He’s got some physicality to his game as well.
Also back from last year is 6’6 2027 wing Caleb Baker. The high-flying wing will have to play and defend a lot of positions this year for LA to be successful. He moves well without the ball and is a perfect blend piece for this team.
New to the team and region this year is 6’3 guard Paxton Ivy. Ivy is a three-level scorer who works defensively and has already heard from some of the nation's elite academic schools.
With size, athleticism, and a star player destined for the highest levels of college basketball that the team already rallies around, this is the perfect blend for Lawrence to compete in AA this year. They will certainly add a football player or two who will make an impact for them in spot minutes throughout the season.
We would certainly be remiss if we didn't recognize that this year's team will be playing for something much bigger than themselves, as we remember the passing of assistant coach and former head coach Kevin Wiercinski.
This will be the first year in almost 25 years without Kevin on the sideline, and we know Coach Wiercinski will be in their hearts and minds every time they step on the floor.
